Petition Netflix to pick up Stargate Universe

What with Netflix being nice guys saving popular shows and all, some clever bugger's made a petition to get them to pick up Stargate Universe. Considering the show went off the air a couple of years ago with a plot point (cryogenic suspension) explaining that was exactly what they'd be doing, it's about the right time to resurrect it.

The petition's already got 35k signatures out of 100k in just a few months.

Stargate Universe is the reason there are no longer Stargate shows.

^This. It took a fascinating, real-world sci-fi show and turned it into... a soap opera. I really wanted to love the characters the way I did for SG1 and (to a lesser extent) Atlantis. But it just was not there...

Stargate Universe is the reason there are no longer Stargate shows.

The people that actively campaigned against SGU, calling themselves Stargate fans, are the reason there are no longer Stargate shows. SGU was different, and in my opinion much, much better than SG-1. Most people just weren't willing to give it a chance.

Bit late but I signed.

With all due respect, there are probably less than 5 people living, yourself included, who feel that way.

Go look at the Netflix reviews. A lot of old-time Stargate fans would disagree, but SGU picked up a different set of fans - people who didn't previously like Stargate. Sadly though, it didn't start to pick up that new fanbase until after it was cancelled.

I actually think it'd have been so much more successful if it was just called 'Universe'. The SG-1/A fans wouldn't get mad when it's not like the other Stargates, and the people who previously didn't like Stargate wouldn't assume it's more of the same and avoid it.

I watched Stargate Universe for a few episodes, but I didn't really like it. The characters seemed to be quite transparently designed to appeal to such and such target audience. The element of science fiction in the Stargate series had been declining for longer, but Stargate Universe seemed like it had forgotten all about those roots. I wouldn't say it's a bad show per se...it's just a very bad Stargate show.

with all due respect (and that isn't much) SGU was cancled because the network couldn't keep the viewers watching on tv all the dedicated viewers and theres lots of us watched it online. so to sum it up for a very narrow minded person the show was considered grea, but wasnt getting any nielson points so it wasn't making any money. maybe your opinion should be based on fact and not imagination.

While I didn't like the show nearly as much as, well, most shows I've ever seen, I'd support this petition. Getting SGU revived would bring hope of finally getting the Atlantis film moving, and perhaps even some material for SG-1.

SGU's fault was the characters and the way focus was put on them. It became less like the successful SG-1 and Atlantis concepts, and more like, say, House. While SGU did have some things I liked, I really didn't care for the focus it put on actual religion (Yes, SG-1 and Atlantis also had a big religion concept, but I felt like it was handled a lot better with those shows), and killing off the only character I actually liked certainly didn't help the show. SGU was good enough for what it set out to do, but it wasn't Stargate.

Ugh, no please! Universe was an abomination. What's worse is that it is the only reason a good show, Stargate:Atlantis, was cancelled. So no, I have no love at all for Universe. It tried to be Stargate: Galactica and failed utterly, and in the process killed the entire Stargate franchise, a franchise that had been successful for 15 or so years previously.

Put me in the "Liked it" camp. I will admit the first half of the first season wasn't great, but I stuck with it because of the pilot episode which was fantastic in my opinion.

Compare it to the first half of the first season of SG1 and it looks a WHOLE lot better. We Stargate fans got spoiled with Atlantis. Not every season of every show can be as jaw-droppingly awesome as those 5 seasons were.

damn neckro. i just want the story to get an end proper, even if its just a crappy 2 hour syfy movie. actually syfy are the ones that screwed everything up. i never watch that channel anyway.

we need a new space show. we've needed one since sgu flopped. there are a few mediocre sci-fis, though none in space, there are plenty of good crime dramas on, plenty of action shows, even a couple good westerns, but i need my space opera fix. or perhaps a hard sci-fi serial of some sorts.
