After a couple hours of experimentation, I've finally made something I've been trying to make for a while: a Tiltwing.

Please note that this pictures are that of an older prototype. There have been additional changes to the aircraft since.

DL? This thing looks amazing! I assume the klaw is the basis for this design's hinge?

Interesting craft Giggleplex.

Did you use the same technique that Chiboko used?: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/83767-Working-Tilt-Rotor

How stable are the wings in the horizontal position?

The problem I have found with craft like this is that they are a bit glitch-y.

DEAR SQUAD: stock hinges please and no "Unity doesn't do hinges well" nonsense.

I used my radial ant engine hinges:

Turns out those radial ant engines are pretty flexible! :)

Edit: This system seems to work better than structural pylons:

Above is a retrofitted ZF-21 with new stock hinges. I haven't adjusted the docking port positions yet, so the engine's sitting at a weird position right now.

They're more flexible than the structural pylons were, but they also flex side to side, which makes the wings a little wobbly. The advantage of this system over separating the craft into two parts is that it can be controlled from the same ship ad tend to survive time warp better.

The claws are there to lock the wings in place.

Does the ASMX work with 0.23.5?

Yes, it should.

Does having the wings swept increase it's performance in anyway?

Sadly I don't think it will make any difference.

The atmospheric model is very very simple.

It's a great design touch though. Very clever indeed.
