This is an interesting question and feel a bit conflicted.

On the one hand, the "money invested to entertainment obtained" has put this, logically speaking, very well into I would be happy stage. However, seeing as I pretty much invested money into an unfinished product because of the promise of the finished product, then I would say "no, I would not be happy"

Can't say that I would. While the game is amazing, it is so far from being finished it isn't even funny. Let's give the development team some slack though: there aren't many games of this type. The devs have had to solve problems that honestly no one has run into before. The game engine is being stretched to its limits, and the devs continue to do so. This is one possibly explanation for the slow development. Slow development combined with unimpressive additions to the game in the last three updates have really compounded the idea of the suddenly stopping. My conservative estimate of my time investment into this game is around 600 hours. As a "top heavy" player of this game, I can say that I would be very disappointed if Squad stopped development of the game, as there are currently 0 features that cater to endgame players.

i wonder, why even bring this up..

Because I wanted to know the answer.

People are clearly frustrated with the speed of development. I wanted to know if they think it is a good game in it's unfinished state.

I would be happy, but I wouldn't be satisfied. It has so much potential that's still unexploited, both in terms of stock features and with mods, that it would be a crime to stop development now. But it's already a pretty fun game in its current state.

Nah, I'd be pretty happy. I think my response is like most others in this thread.

I'd be happy because I got more than my money's worth out of this game already, and it'd still be fun to play.

But, I'd hope that optimization would be greater. Other than that, I'd still be happy.

I don't think development is quitting any time soon, though. I'd be absolutely stunned if they did.

Because I wanted to know the answer.

People are clearly frustrated with the speed of development. I wanted to know if they think it is a good game in it's unfinished state.

Then they shouldnt have bought it, Its with clear letters its under development, if they are annoyed with the speed of development, and want a quick finished product they could play, they shoudnt have bought it, since its clear they then have no understanding what the words "Under Development, and Early Acces Means, nor the conditions they agreed on when they bought the game"

Sorry if i may sound harsh here, but its the simple truth.

Only thing i can maybe agree on, Squad shoudnt maybe placed the game on Steam, mainstream players often have utterly no idear what developing a games even beholds, nor the time and efford it takes too make a game.

Other hand, they needed the money too further develop the game, or sell their souls to a Publishers as EA, and where forced halfway developing the game too release it as finisched product, and had too put a half backed product on the market, that would die out within weeks due bugs and we maybe got 2 or 3 patches before support would have ceased, and with low succes Squad was prolly disbanded like many small studios faith was after releasing a half-backed buggy product.

This is the harsh life in the gaming industry..

So imho i rather have this model, where we have too learn too deal with patience, and get a chance too see the game develop and grow.

And again, if you dont have the patience for that. save you're money for any other finialized 13-in-a-dozen shallow AAA title.. You prolly then are better off..

Again sorry if i sound blunt, and this might not be the answer you want too hear.. its just blunt how things work.

I would be disappointed, and unhappy knowing that I won't get to see what could have been.

On the other hand though, I'm having plenty of fun with this alpha build, so I can't say I'm unhappy with the state the game is in currently, which must mean I'm happy with it at the moment.

Had this version been the final 1.0 release for example, I'd still play it.

I would keep playing the game until I visited every body in the current system.

But as a person who hates half-baked (hah!) attempts at anything, i would get bored and skulk off to some other corner of the gaming world if squad left their rough beauty as-is.

The way this question is asked, I am surprised people would be happy and perfectly fine with this if it happened. No offence to them. I feel no matter what you should always hold yourself to your words. If Squad didn't, that is a sign of disrespect to you as a customer. Even if are satisfied with what ever portion of the game you have, shouldn't really matter since that isn't what you where promised or what you purchased.
I would be happy with KSP and I would keep playing

I am quite happy with KSP and would continue playing, even if SQUAD stopped development tomorrow.

Now, my feelings towards SQUAD, should they take said course of action, are an entirely different matter not covered by the poll.

I'd be one sad, sad man if development suddenly stopped. But even in its current state, the game is great fun. I've bought Big Name games that even though they were worth the $60, they still haven't provide me with as much entertainment and happiness as this game has. I like to tell people "This game in Alpha is more fun than a lot of games at full release." So yeah, I'd keep playing it.

I think people forget that alot. Squad didn't invent Unity. They used it as their platform and now it's biting them in the ass a little, but like most things they will overcome it. I do recall once upon a time a twitch tv session where a unity developer actually sat with them and did the session, so that should say something to all of you.

Most engine developers just hope people come up with a great game using their engine, thats the primary goal one would imagine. Seeing the popularity of this game, and the evident unity developers helping with Squad directly should be a good indicator that they should be able to get by most short comings of this often laggy single core engine.

I voted not happy but keep playing because I'd probably drop in every now and then to build some wacky contraption, but at this point the is no aim to the game, there's planets, but not enough features on them, not enough iconic structure, things like that are what makes the exploration fun; rewarding it may be hard though....

I'd be both happy and upset. Happy because there's a lot of good stuff in the game and there would undoubtedly be future addons that add things that were going to be added, upset because it wouldn't be finished and it would look like the developers gave up and/or died (both of which are bad).

However, you'd still see me around on the forums, making mods and posting pictures of my new space stations, and livestreaming gameplay. This is just too good of a game for me to just give up on. :)

I would be... content. But not overjoyed. The mod community would, hopefully, keep things rolling for a while. There's a LOT in this game I haven't done yet, but without the community here on the forums, the drive to do ALL of it would be... less.

That said, I'd accept it, hope someone else might take up the task, but I'd keep playing.

I picked no, only because I'd always know that there were more planets to be made, more systems to be optimised, etc.

But only sightly unhappy, it's a very good game.

But the game would keep it's place in the "I'll always come back" pile, like Simcity, or Age of Empires.

I went for "not happy but will keep playing", I'm happy enough with my purchase at this time of an "in progress" product (to be still in development and I think still alpha stage it's remarkably well developed and very stable for me) but I wouldn't be happy if development just stopped. I would keep playing though because, while I don't use any right now, KSP appeas to have a superb modding community that has produced some brilliant mods so there would still be some mileage in the game thanks to them :).
