Killing your Kerbals: does it make you feel bad?

I make sure not to lose Kerbals... the one caveat to this is testing... I do test my ships and then revert back to VAB until I have the final design I want to run... this kills "simulated" Kerbals, but once I launch a mission the danger is real... so far I don't have any Kerbals on the dead list :)

That's how I do it too. If my ship just falls apart while launching I revert. But once I have my design ready and I'm really going on a mission I consider it "real" and do everything in my power to keep the guys alive.

This is one of the reasons i prefer trying to build rovers and unmaned drones, i feel some empathy towards them yes. For the longest time i wouldn't make manned rockets because in the demo i had a large crewed capsule of 3 kerbals that splashed down into the ocean, they all drowned and Jeb was the last one to drown by about 3 seconds, he was looking directly into the camera and was smiling the whole time before the screen filled with static.

That's the saddest thing I've ever read. Jeb...heroic to the end.

This the most tragic of all my early accidents, and why I try and keep the poor little guys alive

The expressions say it all, almost as if they know they've only got 0.1 seconds left to live

I'am strong propnent of automatic spacecraft and send Kerbals only a lot of automated stuff is already on place.

I also use only one trusted spaceship design for crewed launches and transfers, so all my innovations do not threaten Kerba lives much.

It sure does bother me. It makes me fell terrible when I've screwed up a design or worse, made an operational error that kills my intrepid crew.

But it makes me plain ANGRY when the physics engine glitches and an entire, perfectly good spacecraft just randomly EXPLODES when I switch to it. I lost Jeb, Bob and Bill that way just last night on a milk run to the Mün flying a tug I've used half a dozen times to deliver fuel and extra modules to my Münar station. I know they'll respawn but that's not the point. If this kind of thing happens in Career Mode, it'll be devastating.

well, i've gone crazy at the release of the update, and recruited everyone, just for lulz.

Now, i've got too much of them, and they can't die nor be fired, but i don't want to activate permadeth and kill them.

So, there is that few kerbals that i liked, and are in stations/big ships, and there is the others whom i just don't give a caress about, and just crash them to make them MIA and free some screen space.

I was doing it too much, but if someone is doing it so much that he starts having trouble separating KSP from reality, he brings "too much" to a new level. That's what I'm talking about. ;)

I'm perfectly capable of separating the two, thank you. The point is not "are Kerbals real", the issue is: are you? All anyone here knows of you are words on a screen - words which sometimes show that you don't clearly understand what others meant. We had a program like that back in the early 80s called Eliza, and they've gotten more sophisticated since then.

Because it might still be unclear, I'm not categorically stating that you're artificial - I'm saying that, for all it matters to anyone here, you're an electronic representation too. It's unlikely that you'll meet anyone here unless you already knew them, so to the rest of us, you only "exist" on a computer screen.

So let's not misuse terms like "borderline", if you'd be so kind. This is not the place for armchair psychiatrists - especially since one could as easily draw conclusions based on people who cannot in any way emotionally identify with the protagonists in the movies they watch or the games they play. ;)
