Kerbanauts can provide unlimited v?

When Kerbanauts are back to command pod, they will be refueled. The point is the EVA fuel is appear out of nowhere, it seems, can be provided without a limit as long as Kerbanauts are board. So...

Unlimited ÃŽâ€v project:

A command pod

A Kerbanaut

Kerbanaut can push the command pod forward, then board the command pod when EVA fuel is nearly exhausted, then left the command pod with 100% EVA fuel and push the command pod again... Theoretically with this method they could exert unlimited ÃŽâ€v...

...and you can't steer accurately anyway, because you're not actually attached to the ship. Now if you did this by PULLING on the end of a KAS cable...

That depends on the ship design, my pod when I put the legs down (had to push it into retro grade orbit) I was able to steer the pod by catching Jeb on the legs.

It's a fact, not really a theory. However, it is soooo slow, tedious and unstable that it can't really be exploited for anything practical except for a few very borderline cases.

I have used EVA to deorbit a spaceplane that ran out of fuel just on the edge of space. But that just needed enough delta V to drop the perigee down by a couple thousand meters. And it took me about an hour. I'd hate to think how long it would take to even get to mun orbit. Days maybe? :)

... and now i'm thinking:

-build a ship composed of a command pod, KAS cable, and random parts attached to decoupler

-Use that mod that allow you to give orders to multiple kerbals in EVA.

-Attach them with a KAS cable.

-Start pulling the command pod with your kerbals

-Rename command pod "Santa Claus"

-Aquire sub-orbital trajectory

-Randomly press spacebar

-???

-Profit

Your "???" there is: "-Cycle them back into the command pod in regular intervals"

There's another way they can provide unlimited ÃŽâ€v: continually climbing a ladder but being blocked by part of the ship. They exert force against the ship but have no equal-opposite force from climbing the ladder. Good luck harnessing it in space, where you'll just spin unless exactly centered...but I've successfully made "kerboscooter" free-energy wheeled carts before.

Actually if you tried to pull the command pod under EVA-pack thrust, you'd be unstable. You need to push the capsule.

But if you're the tiniest bit off center while pushing you'll spin it at worst or push it off course at best.

lols I just have this image now of Jeb sitting in a command chair on the front of a command pod, holding a whip and with a bunch of tethered Kerbals pulling him along, MUSH MUSH!!

What is that mod that allows you to control multiple kerbals? That sounds like a fun new way to cause chaos!

I once tried the OP's suggestion to rescue a mission that had run out of rocket and RCS fuel, after about 20mins of pushing the command pod I gave up and launched another rescue ship. It was far too tedious and didn't show much promise of getting home anytime soon! I was in a solar orbit at the time, and I'd prob still be there doing it that way!!

I haven't tested it, but does the KAS connector not attach to the kerbonaut's back at the kerbonaut's center of mass? If so, thrusting forwards would impart no rotation on the kerbonaut and be stable.

It looks like it does, yes, although when the kerbal's walking around it does seem to shift around a bit as it doesn't follow the animations.

Edit: Oh, I think I see what he's getting at. he's thinking of the inline winch that has the cable come out the side of it, which would do pretty much like he says. If you use the one with the cable mounted on the end, dead center, it wouldn't be a problem... I think.

There are many exploits like this (for example fuel pumping center of gravity shifts, as Scott Mainly demonstrated). But they are so small, and soo fiddly to achieve that the only one I can see being patched out is the infini glider.

Well Kerbonaut Infinite Delta-V might be at some point too, just by provision of a limited supply of Jet Pack fuel to refill them with. It'll probably be awhile, though.

I'm imagining a Kerbal satellite that's just Jeb holding a radio dish with a star on his head like a weird space christmas tree...

Naaah, you'd need a command pod so you could enter and get more fuel.
