This mod combines 2 crafts in one, not sure if it is still compatible. And there is subassembly mod too

yup! just click on your kerbalnaut as if you are trying to select him as a target or a control from here action, you will see: Plant Flag

If you're looking for something simple and small you can check this out:

You could probably lower it a bit more to make it even more stable, and another RTG or a couple more solar panels.
