[WIP] Audio Muffler

This is a small plugin I'm working on that muffles your audio as air pressure reduces. Currently there are still a few outstanding issues - music's muffled too, the audio clicks that KSP makes are somewhat more noticable, and it sometimes turns itself off. Also, if you're on speakers or something with minimal low frequency reproduction, you won't hear much of anything (it's utterly silent by the end on my laptop speakers).

After a few more issues are fixed, I'll set up a config file for it, that allows you to specify how much you want the audio muffled, whether you want it active at all, etc.

Release time TBD.

Sounds awesome! (pun intended)

But seriously this looks really cool. Also this rocket crashing into the Mun made me think you could also mod in some "speed of sound" so that the explosion sound is delayed if something goes off from afar. I know in vacuum you simply wouldn't hear them, but regardless that would be cool.

And a sonic Boom. I need that. Not just the effect, the sound, because it's awesome.

Also, sounds good Nova, I saw your video first before this post.

Can't, I'm just adding an effect to the audio listeners, actually going in and modifying when sounds play when would be a nightmare and a half.

That would be far more interesting if, assuming that you see and hear things from the point of view of the controlled vessel, it would muffle sounds you can't hear through the vacuum, but retain the sounds you can hear through the vessel body. And maybe add new ones, like screeching when you graze a docking port...

This is great! Can you add additional sounds to the rocket liftoff? I'm looking for that 'tearing through the air sound' sound, sort of like a fighter jet but deeper and bigger. I'm talking about that crackling sound like in this video http://youtu.be/OnoNITE-CLc?t=2m

That would really add some serious immersion and more realness to the game.

So from my current understanding, if you switch vessels while a sound is playing, that sound will now be playing both muffled and unmuffled variants simultaniously... I'm not sure how that's even possible, unity only supports one audio listener active at once, otherwise it floods the console with errors.

I... I keep thinking of ideas for plugins... and then someone else does them. I'm cursed!

I also second blaylock's request. One of the things I've really wanted in KSP is that crackle that you hear in recordings of rocket launches. I don't know if that exists in person or is an effect of recording, but it's -cool-

Maybe something could interface with the game, mute it, then play sounds at the appropriate times and at the proper stereo channels... or some variant of Universe Replacer could potentially be made for sounds. I don't know, KSP's sound system is gross inside and I don't want to touch it. I'm just trying to add stuff over top of it.

Edit: might've fixed the bug, it's not throwing any errors now at least.

You got a low-pass filter working? Nice! Very atmospheric.

I wrote a similar plugin at one point, except it dealt with volume rather than frequency. Where are you setting the filter that it's affecting the game music?

Something else that's quite nice with it: Switch back to unfiltered/less filtered sound when in internal views.
