Is this the kerbalest plane?

Meh. Most of these clips are photoshopped. Heavily. And prototype of this abomination indeed flew - two times i think. It tried to shake itself apart both times, and ultimately crashed. Then Stalin put the constructor in gulag.

Those clips are 'shopped because nobody still alive actually knows what the damn thing looked like. It was incredibly classified, and as you mentioned, flew all of twice. The Russians didn't really understand resonance frequencies at the time, and wouldn't you know it, the plane resonated at the exact same frequency that the engines ran at :P

Isn´t that kerbal? Well, I suppose that Jeb would be more than happy to be expelled to Jool.

MOST Kerbal plane? The rocket-assist C130.

Moar. Boosters.

There's a picture of wikipedia. The real thing is a lot less impressive.

This was the other giant aircraft the russians built in the same era.

The second aircraft also has an interesting feature, an pod with two engines on top for extra power. I thought it was an fighter plane

Better pictures here:

The engine pod was added after it was build as it was underpowered.

And yes the famous flying tank.

However the Russians was amateurs and mostly stopped making strange planes once the Germans started.

They did some serious odd things like:

Luckily for the test pilots the war ended before it was build.

It's so crazy it actually works (kinda)

In it's first and only flight, it plowed into the ground so hard the the test pilot was probably the first person to break the sound barrier. I'd question whether that constitutes even 'kinda' working.

A matter of definition, my first probe to Moho did an 6Km/s kinda landing.

Did not really understood the point of meeting the Moho at Pe to minimize relative speed.

Am I right in assuming that Jebediah was signed up to be the test pilot for the second attempt? :P
