Cutscenes?

Recommended Posts

I don't know if Squad has ever mentioned them before and I don't see any other threads having discussed them.

Do you think cutscenes, similar to Squad's update release trailers, should be present in the game itself? If so, when would these be appropriate, and what should cutscenes depict?

Personally, I like the idea of cutscenes:

-that would remain as lighthearted and comical as Squad's trailer videos.

-that could be triggered by tech node purchases, discovery of new planets/moons, and recovery of spacecraft.

-that don't interrupt the player during a flight in progress.

I certainly don't think this is a high priority feature, but one that would give the game more character.

I also realize that, if implemented at all, cutscenes would likely be created during the final polishing stages much further down the road.

I like the tech node idea. There's actually alot of room for variety there. Researchers coming up with the parts, engineers building them, maybe KSP head peoples signing a deal with Rockomax... speaking of deals, there could be scenes for deal signing for things like launching other company's satellites for them, as others have suggested.

I like it,my suggestions

1 when you land on the Mun and Eva for the first time your kerbal gets out of the pod but trips and starts floating away for a second and then comes back down.

2 when you land on minmus for the first time your kerbal gets out and starts to look hungry and begins to lick his helmet.

3 when you land on Duna your Kerbal Eva's and starts to celebrate taking off his helmet and spiking it on the ground like a foot ball only to have to catch it and put it back on

4 when Lansing on eve kerbal Eva's looks around and starts making snow angels in the sand.

That's all I got right now

I don't like the idea of one for each node, that would just get annoying.

The only place where it wouldn't feel like just an intrusion, would be when loading from the VAB or SPH, and even then, that would get annoying without any simulation mode, as you'd have to skip it every time you wanted to test something.

These days, I feel games that are not reliant on their cinematic style should make cutscenes:

-Skippable (even the first time!)

-Rewatchable (from a menu later)

-Appear only between gameplay segments (no interruptions of action in progress)

I almost take these for granted as professional implementation and am irked when a game (especially a big title) doesn't do these things.

Anyone for paragon/renegade interrupts? (Just kidding! Although I might make a renegade Jebediah Shepard later...)

I belive only loading scenes and tech tree should have cutscenes.

Or only if you make a very huge achievement like land on the mun, it would show a tab with mission complete and a button for a video with the news or something.

I don't want a video to popup during my gameplay

I can't imagine that the final game *wouldn't* have any cutscenes in it. The game is still in Alpha state, and that type of material can be plopped in much later. Additionally -- the very first question in the forum once they're included will be "how do I disable/skip the cutscenes?" so there's no rush... ;)

Why not putting short cinematics during the loading screens? For example, we could see a rocket being carried from the VAB to the Launch Pad before the flight actually begins!

No need for a cutscene, why not do it in the game engine?, with a basic model of something like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crawler-transporter

If the player didn't make the CoG low enough, or if it goes too fast, it could even topple when going up the ramp! (OK, it auto-levels in real life, but where's the fun in that?)

More seriously, I'd prefer if the cinematics could be done in-engine wherever possible - because any work done to improve the effects there will have benefits in other parts of the game.

The big problem with pre-rendered cinematics is that they can't really show the space craft, because in the game it can be of any shape or design, and in the cinematics it will be some generic design. Not against the idea though it will still work but I guess the devs have more urgent things to do.

Saw several scripted cinematics which actually show the character wearing the clothes it does ingame.

The rocket thing could just build the basic model and show it being carried.

I dont know if its worth the effort, but it's not impossible.

Showing a generic ship being carried at loading time wouldn't bother me though.

Anyway, ksp doesn't take that long to load a launch, so a picture of a ship being carried would fit better on this specific case.
