As a basic player, I've made orbit. I'm now looking to travel to the Mun, but I need to make science to get everything I need for the trip. Any ideas on easy science?

Even if you can't land on the moons yet, low fly-bys of them with pilot reports, EVA reports, and goo pods can earn quite a few points.

Land everywhere you can and take a crew report, soil sample, and eva report when you get there. On the way there, take a crew report and eva report from space. You can also do an eva report from the upper atmosphere so long as your engine is off. Each trip will get you a good amount of science and in no time you'll have everything you feel you need to get to Mun.

Land in places that look different from each other. Some suggestions:

The polar ice sheets.

A mountain.

Near a mountain.

Lowlands.

A river.

The desert to the west of KSC.

For variety, you can also send a ship to the mun to flyby without landing. That doesn't take nearly as much fuel as actually landing. Take some crew and Eva reports from there and from deep space on the way there and back. Just make sure you land back on Kerbin so you can collect it all!

And of course, bring a science bay and goo container everywhere you go for even more tasty, tasty science.

You can also just fly out of Kerbin's sphere of influence and then fly back in, gets you some science and is good practice before trying interplanetary flights.
