A necklace is similar? [Okay, well that gets me nowhere] Let's see... a key, a pendant, a locket, and a carcanet are all similar, but they all lack at specific points. So it's gotta be something different. (Well, a locket actually sounds close. What exactly doesn't work about it?) The first line of verse 2. That's the kicker for me.

So I have to narrow it down to one...

If anything, I'll stick with a Locket, but I bet my right shoe this time it's wrong.

Is "nerves" the answer?
Nope, unless you can somehow get the second half of verse 2 to fit with it. Also, I don't think all possible permutations of nerves are equally likely, considering they typically have specific purposes to perform.

... yes. It's headphones. Well, earphones, anyway. Same deal, right? :D

It was a pretty good one. B737 put me onto the answer really by asking "why wires?"

What was "the demanded best" - a mobile handsfree kit like I suspected, or something else?

And I should have one in due course. Hopefully less "anything could fit" than my last, but it's always hard to judge when you're writing.

Oh, that (and the millions of possible forms, etc.) referred to how you always want your wires to be untangled, but they always​ end up tangled due to there being a small number of "untangled" states they can be in v.s. the large number of "tangled" states they could be in. :)
