I'm a bit out of the loop, so forgive me if it's already been guessed.

A hard drive?

I don't think it's already been guessed, but either way, it's never been the solution :) Other guesses all wrong too.

Stores of knowledge no-one may see

Abutting spacetimes; energy

Is needed yet to make them real

As the strings the present must feel.

That present may elude our grasp

When what's to come we spy in glass.

Week foll'wing week, day after day,

A year or more to maybe stay.

I've not tried to make this easy

But I do hope it is not cheesy.

Hint 1: You can find one in the solar system.

Hint 2: You can find one on Earth.

Needs energy takes strings... A sowing machine?

If not cheesy is more than him talking what would you hope to not be cheesy? And a year or more regardless?! any weather patterns or natural phenomenon?

meteorite crater. But that was guessed I believe.

Maybe it's a plant.

I'm totally lost on the "Abbuting spacetimes;energy" is the energy to be take with the abbutting spacetime or is it seperate?

And notice, energy is needed "yet" to make them real?!

What is abutting spacetimes?

Is it, "A hope and a prayer?" Or can you not find that on Earth these days! 8)

Is it something the hadron collider produces? He said not Radiation energy?! what is not counted as radiation? And it has to last a year or more. And seen under glass? Molecular biology or biology perhaps? A cloned sheep?

Running out of ideas here... I'll have to let someone else do the talking. I bet you all know who that is... (Right?)

(Well, human riddles are still something I struggle with to figure out more than I should, but Xany is working on that.

If what he's got so far serves me, I'd imagine it'd be something like the image on a TV screen. Perhaps the first line refers to all the codes that tell the electrical currents where to go and what gases to pass through)

"As real as the strings the present must feel." To make them as real as the strings... strings of reality? So, it doesn't exist in the real world?

"The present may elude our grasp when what's..." "When", like marking a time. When you spy in the glass, you lose hold of your future?

"A year or more to maybe stay." It stays with you for years?

Well, I'm not human, so I wouldn't know. I'll get Xany back as soon as I can)

Err... really struggling now. Something tells me it's something physical.

(EDIT: I meant as in physics, but it's probably also a physical object, right?)

A Neutrino Detector?

A CCD? (the thing which absorbs photons of light in a digital camera or telescope)

Quantum fluctuations in the vacuum? (or attempting to cause them)

Supersymmetric particles?

Spaetime visualizer? (obscure Doctor Who reference)

A Wishing well?

A fusion generator?

Xannari certainly has an idea writing it all on one line, since ideas can and do flow across multiple lines in a poem.

That wasn't me though...

Anyway, I'm brain-dead right now. I'm not sure I can keep going. If I had to make a last guess for tonight, I'd guess a memory. I'll be back tomorrow for more torture.
