I wouldn't mind giving an easy one out to pass the time, with permission of course.

EDIT: ...So... I guess I'm free? Well, here y'all go. Should be easy enough.

Where black and white will harmonize,

To bring forth tears to many's eyes.

Where somber and joy are one in the same,

The only infinity that can be tamed.

Tranquil, sedate, largo, collected,

Fierce, frivolous, broad, perfected.

When nothing is left, never dimit,

For your own mind is the only limit.

I hope everyone's okay with my keeping the thread alive. Here goes:

My weapon of choice; a long slender staff,

That I used to vanquish my foes.

When they were beaten, I earned treasures fine

By continuing to demonstrate what I know.

And though my days in the arena are past,

My exploits stand the test of time.

And now I help others develop their talents,

Perhaps theirs will one day surpass mine.

Are you looking for a specific person? Like a mentor or someone?

Could it be Sergey Bubka?

My weapon of choice; a long slender staff,

That I used to vanquish my foes.

Pole vaulter, and a very successful one.

When they were beaten, I earned treasures fine

By continuing to demonstrate what I know.

Broke the pole vaulting record 35 times total.

And though my days in the arena are past,

My exploits stand the test of time.

Retired from pole vaulting in 2001, but left behind a lot of work on the Petrov/Bubka technical model, which is still used today and considered to be great. [citation needed]

And now I help others develop their talents,

Perhaps theirs will one day surpass mine.

He is now a vice-president and a chairman for the International Association of Athletics Federations, which holds a lot of athletic competitions, inspiring new athletes worldwide.

Disclaimer: I am not a great fan of sports and everything I know about this guy was extracted from wikipedia - sorry if I got anything wrong :)
