[WIP] X-20 Dynasoar

Recommended Posts

Started working on a separate project so I don't get too burned out on Infernal Robotics. It's the X-20 Dynasoar. The meshes are complete, I've chopped the parts into their respective peices (nose cone, cockpit, body, wing section, flaps, etc). Biggest hurdle for me right now are the textures because I'm a programmer first and an artist last.

Here's a fit test using the transtage and the geminismall fuel pack from frizzank's amazing FASA pack.

Thanks Voidryder. I spoke with Ferram on some tips on making it FAR compatible so I have a little bit of mess work to do but it actually makes my life a little bit easier. Now if only texturing could be that easy. :)

Woot! Loving this. :)

Can't wait.

A note on the pics above. Note that the first (the cutaway) shows the Dynasoar in its later transport incarnation, not the original recon/bomber/fighter with the cargo bay (The four astronauts are actually in a built-in pod in the cargo bay IIRC).

Here's the X-20A (Astronautix has some other good cutaways, including different equipment bays):

There's a version from Orbiter if you want some texture references (though the textures there seem VERY simple): http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=1030

I think the first version will be the single seat recon variant. I did take a look at the orbiter textures and the mesh(there is actually an orbiter mesh importer for blender) to get an idea of how it was made but found both to be too simple for KSP to replicate.

I'm not the BEST at texturing and all my texturing skill is in GMAX but I could be of help possibly.

Sounds great. I'm going to give it a shot first and if I am unhappy I'll certainly contact you. Thanks for the offer!

Since the X-20 predates Kliper by 40 years, Kliper is essentially the Russian X-20. More accurately, Kliper has more in common with the abandoned ESA Hermes of the 1980's.

Frizzank, I may to. I'm going to give it a shot first but I will certainly let you know. Thanks for the offer.

Odyssey, I could use some weight suggestions for the craft and when I get the meshes split up probably some suggestions on the weight of each part.

Just a little update. I'm redoing the mesh because I realized just how ugly the wireframe looks and how much of a pain that the skinning will be if I kept going. It won't take me too long since I've already done it before and will be reusing certain parts of the mesh.

Isn't this what allegedly crash in Rowsell 1947?

Shush! The extraterrestrials never got paid when the contract fell through. Don't go bringing up bad blood, green or otherwise! :D

Well, considering the usual logic of UFO theorists, I wouldn't be surprised if they said that Dynasoar was, in fact, in the works as early as 1947, and the government wasn't just telling the truth about it. Or simply forgotten about such puny details as the flow of time. The Roswell story actually started in 1978.
