Multiplayer: What does it mean for people with no one to play with?

Recommended Posts

I know many people are in the same boat as me: we don't really have anyone to play with. So what does multiplayer mean for us? For many people, I'm sure multiplayer will be extremely exciting, and also it will make for some great YouTube content. However, I don't really see myself using the multiplayer functions at all to be honest. What do you guys think?

Speaking as someone with an exceptionally shoddy Internet connection,* it's inclusion or non-inclusion doesn't really mean much to me. I might get around to joining a server eventually, but honestly I've always been more interested in the single-player side of most games I've owned.

* Ironically itself provided by a satellite, given that we're talking about a game about technological progress through space exploration.

i think of multiplayer as single player with better bots. so i like multiplayer games where i can join a server with a bunch of people i dont know.

in the context of ksp, im not sure what multiplayer would be other than a bunch of players flying their own missions in a shared universe. i dont think there would be any actual need for interaction. you would need to introduce some new goal that needs multiple players to accomplish.

I think it's pretty clear that SQUAD has NOT decided to make this a multi-player only game.

For people without other people to play with, inclusion of a multiplayer mode means the consumers that are only interested in a single player game get less game and fewer features for what they paid.

Seeing as I paid for the .20 version of this game, I already got WAY more than that.

And having the multiplayer doesn't mean they will NOT do something else. It just means that it'll take a little longer to finish

If it's optional, we miss out on part of the functionality.

If it's mandatory (say an MMO and you can't play it solo in there, can only play as a team) we're screwed. Can only hope Squad doesn't go that way.

Overall, I think the entire idea an MMO style for KSP to be seriously misguided, and we can only hope it won't come to that.

Hopefully stock multiplayer has similar behavior to the popular mod KMP, wherein tech-savvy users can operate their own servers using the provided software to create small communities focused around these server operators and their capabilities.

I know my KMP server at publickmp1.kerbalspace.net usually has people on it, when the software hasn't bugged out and run it out of RAM anyway. It tends to use a lot of that.

It is likely that there would be lists of public-access multiplayer servers. I should start coding a system to manage such a list.

There is 0 indication of an MMO. Why is everyone even thinking about it?

I don't even see how the idea of an MMO model can be applied to KSP in any way possible. KSP is too far removed from traditional MMO-style games to have a snowball's chance in hell of somehow landing in that ballpark.
