How did I miss the 48-7s for four months!?

I've started a fresh game today, and forced myself to use different designs than normal. I found the 48-7s. It was a nearly religious experience. For four months I've been toiling away, not realizing that awesomeness was a click away. I guess I just saw the size, and didn't read the description closely. I thought is was another Ant, one of those super-specific engines for teeny, tiny builds that I used to sneer at.

"How can anything small be worth anything to me? I need more Skippers and Mainsails!" I am pleased to have been humbled today. My design strategy has been revolutionized. I will turn my back on the cult of Moar Boosters, and embrace the light of Effeciency.

You mean, you will turn your back on the cult of Moar Boosters and turn to the cult of Moar Engines, replacing every Mainsail with 50x 48-7s', which have a higher TWR and better Isp. And through this you shall achieve greater Isp. Embrace the lessons learned by the designers of the N1; it is better to have more engines than to have bigger engines, for it allows greater Excess and Awesome.

The 48-7S is indeed awesome. But I'm afraid that SQUAD might decide to nerf it, and then I'd have a bunch of ships that no longer can do their job.

I agree with this point. If they were going to nerf it, it would've been polite to do it sooner.

I still have yet to figure out how you can add more than one 48-7 to an attachment point. I have tried to use them before, but I can't figure out how people can cluster these.

You could just install editor extensions and use alt-r

It's my go to engine for small 2-stage single man Mun landers. One engine on each of the descent and ascent stages and your good to go.

Me 2. Though I typically only use it on the ascent stage and use an LV-909 on the descent stage. Typically 2 person landers though. Single kerbal landers get one each on descent and ascent. I go for vaguely Apollo style LMs in my design, when I can.

Surface-attach Cubic Octagonal Struts, then attach engines to those.

Alternatively you can use the Editor Extensions mod to toggle surface attach while placing the engine and not have to use the Cubic Octagonal Strut. Or if you don't want to run the mod you can just edit the config file for the 48-7S to allow surface attaching (this is were you can also edit the engines parameters JIC Squad nerfs the engine)

Aha, Maybe it would work with landing engines. It would be fun to land on the Mun with the efficiency of a probe engine and higher thrust than the Mainsail.
