Since when does encountering not happen?

I tried my first "Armada" of ships to duna. 3 ships, all on perfect encounters. Only the one I watched made it. Since when does it not change if your not there? I saw videos in earlier versions automatically entering.

EDIT: what the person above me said, onl my guess was that it skips through the encouunter altogether on high time warp

Also this may sound snide, but you are not the first person who has basically said "I'm going to quit this game (until update X/Y is fixed") and honestly, you choose to play this game or not. If you don't enjoy it quit, otherwise stop using ridiculous hyperboles.

If you have an SOI change at high time warp, strange things tend to happen. Maybe this is the cause?

I can confirm that happening to a ship that was suppose to get a slingshot boost from Mun. It crashed back to Kerbal when the slingshot didn't take place under high warp.

You have to watch when sending fleets of ships starting with the first arrival. The others will make the encounter in map mode if you are not using high warp on the one you are controlling. Even then, you will need to set capture maneuvers on each one as they arrive.

Physics only really is in effect on the vessel you're controlling...

The rest are "on rails". Their trajectory is pre-calculated. Even dipping into the atmosphere, so long as you're above the auto delete altitude won't effect the trajectory.

All that said an encounter should still take effect... But strange things happen at high time warp.

Launch straight up. Cancel out your motion due to the spin of the planet so you come right back down. Accelerate so you are almost to escape velocity but not. Now set time warp to max. Watch as you fall back to Kerbin... pass through it and head back out on your pencil thin "orbit". And this is while being in control... Not even Planet collisions take effect at high time warp...

Were you in control of each craft as they individually crossed Duna's SOI? I've never experienced what you have, but I always make sure to control each ship individually as it crosses the SOI because of the on-rails physics. You can see that when you're not in control of a ship SOIs don't matter for that ship.

I understand on-rails, but I saw a video basicalyl doing this, so I didn't know that it wouldn't work.

I wasn't quitting because blahblahblah omgbugfixit0.24, I was just mad at the time and wrote it in rage.

With on-rails positions will be calculated at every time step, based on what the time is at that step. When you're running at 100,000× acceleration (and assume 10 timesteps per second) you're skipping something like 10,000s with every time step. Which is irrelevant when things run on rails. Except when it is relevant which is at an SOI change. Suppose the orbital velocity is 2000m/s. An you're moving in 10,000s brackets. That means you're moving in 20,000km steps which gives a 10,000km margin on average compared with where you expect the SOI change to take place. That's almost the distance between Kerbin and Munâ€â€obviously if you're going to be off by that much of a margin things get messed up.

Use the alarm clock plugin to prevent this from happening

Also note that you should have said "I could NOT care less right now". Notice the NOT.

I wish the general American populace would learn to speak English, rather than say the exact opposite of what they intended.

Irregardless, everyone knows what he's saying. Perhaps your a bit over sensitive :)

And you should perhaps also remember that there's a world outside the United States. A lot of people playing KSP speak english as a second language.

(I apologize if i'm derailing this thread further)

First of all, I'm not American either.

Next lets look at this sentence.

Irregardless, everyone knows what he's saying. Perhaps your a bit over sensitive

No such word as Irregardless. Incorrect use of YOUR, it should have been you're!!

I find it's mostly Americans that butcher the English language to the extent of saying the exact opposite.

Try a little harder!

Friendly neighborhood moderator reminder: This isn't an English class. I could understand if you were pointing out errors in someone's mission report or tutorial to help them make it more presentable,* but if you must nitpick someone else's spelling and grammar, I'd advise keeping it to discreet PMs.

Let's try to stay on topic here, folks :)

* Indeed, I've offered my proofreading services to other users before, any they've found it most helpful.

No such word as Irregardless.

Nonsense. It's a perfectly cromulent word.

But on topic, as Kerbart pointed out, the alarm clock plugin is great for these types of things: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/24786-0-23-Kerbal-Alarm-Clock-v2-7-0-0-%28December-20%29

You can also conveniently jump to the ship that sets off an alarm.

Just to add my observations about grammar SOI changes with multiple ships, I recently (in 0.23) sent a small Squad of 9 ships back from Mun with about 45 mins between each ones departure. I left each one to just get on with changing SOI without focusing on them and everything worked out fine, they even kept their carefully set 32km approach Pe. I was dropping in and out of time warp but I wasn't going up to the really high time warps which is where I think the problem comes in. I also think interplanetary SOI changes can be more problematic than the Mun SOI change I was doing but I'm fairly sure if you slow right down for each one it should work without you having to switch ships for each crossing.

Simple solution. Launch a bit later and switch to ensure the correct SOI change.

My last Duna mission consisted of a refueling ship and a manned orbital ship. The manned ship left a week later than the fuel ship. Cost a little bit in delta V, but it saved a headache.

First time I attempted something similar it all went very well. It was only to the Mun though. I did a burn, switched to another ship and then burned again. Got all of them on their way then watched with baited breath as they crossed SOI. I did put the time warp down as they crossed. Then one at a time as they reached the periap to circulize, then one at a time to land. It went real well.

I think the best thing is to get KAC and switch exactly when they SOI change. They're about 10 hours seperated or something like that.

VOID.
