Docking Problems ?

Recommended Posts

Well, i've looked in some threads, but i have still problems finding out how to dock two parts with each other.

I have these two pieces

I use the "Clamp-O-Tron Sr. Docking Port"

The parts which are shown in the pictures are just randomly made in order to test if i could mate 2 spaceships with eachother, so far i couldn't.

and I have tried it like in these videos :

I had the parts alligned several times and they touched like shown in the tutorial videos (yeah i check several angles) but nothing happend. They just drifted apart afterwards.

My question is, do i have to press any specific button so they dock? Or could someone explain me in words how i have to get them to stay together?

You may also ask if you need more information in order to help me :S

It doesn't look like you've set the other vessel's port as your target, unless that indicator goes away in docking view.

Never mind that. It was my initial thought that one port wasn't oriented properly, but my inspection was too lazy I suppose.

Aye, the docking port on the craft with a capsule is upside down. The problem is biggest with the Clamp-O-Tron seniors, where both sides look a lot like each other, while there's a bigger difference on the standard and junior ports. But yes, you just have to make sure that the two docking ports touch each other and are roughly centered, then the docking ports will do the rest for you.

Maybe there should be some indication in the VAB that a docking port is facing the wrong way, or simply prevent it from being placed that way (unless some people do it on purpose for some reason). Only really applies to the Sr. port though, but could be extended for add-on inline ports I suppose.

Look for a little yellow hook and the docking port textures to find the docking side. the alternate (nondocking) side is just grey with lines coming out from the center.
