I'm building a DragonRider, want help?

Yes, please!

Cool! can we see the Atlas?

Ooh, and Space X isn't/wasn't part of the proposed constellation mission.

Atlas is being uploaded tonight.

I know, SpaceX might help the mission though. I think I heard they were giving it a second shot. A Making of the Remake I guess.

A series of untested SSTOs, feel free to contact me for testing these

These SSTOs are intended for Sparrowhawk's new Hawkling Series of 1.0 SSTOs

Wow, those are great.

How did you display the crafts like that? It's amazing.

Well, it's about time someone like YOU should try out sketch fab :D just make an account and download a ksp sketch fab craft to model uploader and you'll be set! :D

How exactly do you upload a craft? It doesn't want to take a .craft.

Hear hear! I suspect I have already heard something about this, but he would save me some time googling.

Also, @SHiftER2O, the last one is pretty nifty. Kudos!

Rune. If I had the time to test mine...

It seems there's an official KSP-to-Sketchfab importer on the website, but it's Windows only. Damn.

I'm sure some nice formunite would donate five minutes of their time and a few megs of their connection to convert them for you, if you sneak peek what they would be getting their hands into before anybody else. Thanks!

So by my count that's four ongoing Constellation recreations. It's a veritable Cambrian Explosion!

Majorjim, I think you wanted to know how the landers were going. The crewed lander is nearly complete, I just need to add the rovers as cargo and some other finishing touches. I haven't started the lander with the MAV, but it's based off the crewed one so it won't take as long to finish.

Yeah it's going to be exciting to see what everyone comes up with. Good to hear your making progress dude.

What have you done for the lander aeroshells? I'm going to use stock fairings now that there is a 'fix' for the separation. It won't be a realistic release though.. That's only possible with mod fairings or custom ones..

I'll probably go the same route as you, custom fairings look nice but take a massive amount of work and have a corresponding part count. Your fix is that mod that allows you to have clamshell separation, I assume. Did you ever find out whether that was transferred in a craft file?

However, the legs I'm using won't really retract, so I may end up having to use wider fairings than I would prefer.

Yup that's the mod. I dont think it does transfer sadly.. We would just have to recommend it when we release the craft files.

And yeah, I enjoyed making custom faiirngs but not using then saves nearly 100 parts.

The size issue is a constant problem. To keep scale the aeroshell (in my case) should be Exactly 3.125m. But the landers are slightly wider than that so I too have to have a slightly larger fairing.

One thing I learnt making my first constellation mission is you have to make compromises at all levels. As an example, I have had to use two more engines on one of the landers, 8 instead of 6 for the ascent lander. So just do the best you can mate.

Ooh, incidentally, I removed the antennas from my Altair lander and the performance is transformed. I knew they caused lag but the amount of lag amazed me. It still looks great and I will see if there is a replacement part I can use.

It's a joy to fly now, and the launcher is coming along nicely now.

I think most of my stuff will be fairly large, so a wide fairing may not matter. If you've seen my SLS, the Ares V will have similar looks and scale, considering the two are evolutions of each other. As for compromises, I know exactly what you mean. Fuel balancing on the landers is driving me nuts.

Yup fuel balance can be a b**ch! That's why I went with a symmetric design for the first landers I made. The new ones are based on those so I managed to keep the symmetrical fuel load which means its balanced throughout the landing burn. I have one word for you, ballast.

Using deactivated rcs tanks as ballast can really help balance a craft.

Good choice. Tell me, how are you protecting your landers during the descent into Duna's atmosphere? Are the fairings enough?

Unless you are on a direct descent into the atmosphere at interplanetary speeds the fairings are not really needed. The issue seems to be the shape of the lander now with the aero update. You need to Deploy chutes as soon as the fairing goes. You don't need much dv for the landers as the chutes will do a lot of the work. I think mine both have around 900m/s dv which is plenty for spotting a landing site and maneuvering in powered descent.

A big issue is finding a flat landing site. The surface is so bumpy and I don't like seeing my landers at an angle. you could send a curiosity rover first to scout out a flat landing site. Oh, and download the trajectories mod. It's a godsend.

Ooh ooh, and aero-brake around 8000M.

Hear hear. Already got a landing site scouted out.

Since you did a manned Altair, are you doing a cargo variant Altair as well?

I just completed a Duna SSTO (can act as an orbit-surface-orbit cargo and crew ferry) VTOL Dropship, and I've started working on a purely jet-powered version for Kerbin and Laythe...

Both can carry cargo (my two-man "Pitbull 4x4 by default), and can haul up to 2 pilots and 4 passengers. (Passengers in a MK2 Crew Cabin in the bottom of the tail)

Yeah I think I might. The wont be an elegant way to get it off the descent stage though.. Good good! Scouting is really fun.

Ehhh, that should actually be fairly easy. Best way i can think of right now would be to lower the cargo down using RCS for breaking. The gravity is so low it won't be that big of a problem.
