Am I the only one who only builds two-stage to orbit rockets? For some reason, I haven't built a three-stage to orbit launcher since 0.22.

Here's my 20 mT launcher:

Staging. The second stage engines are two LV-909s clipped inside Aerospikes for better efficiency and thrust.

Payload separation. Here you can see the engines better.

Made it to 80km orbit with 200 m/s to spare. :)

Well, my first ARM lifter was kind of a TSTO... only payload was a big honking EDS (anything above the 3.75m decoupler makes space), it will take any other <250mT and put them in orbit:

The spike+909 sounds good, but why not just LV-t45s or 30s? Spikes are horrible in T/W, and the 909 is no longer what it used to, so you might get the same or higher Delta-v at that T/W... plus, the nozzle would turn out bigger and nicer, and with surface attachment they look very good under the new tanks, and save lots of parts (engines system parts: the two engines, and that's that).

Rune. No asparagus since 0.23.5.

Well, I was experimenting with new composite engines and using a 20 mT payload as a benchmark. The spike+909 combo performed the best (and yes, I did test the LV-T30).

BTW, the Aeroskipe was needed a while back; while the LV-909 hasn't changed since its implementation in 0.14.

ok, i'm officially completely crazy :P

still WIP :P (i still need to add a few arms :P)

Mini Saturn V (MK1 pod based - 1 kerbal only) ! (this version has already 685 parts - a full scale Saturn V with these would be horrendous in part count :P)

Two stage to oribt is pretty cool. I've starting doing this rather than using parallel boosters, although I also like to add a third kick stage to circularise the orbit without reusing the second stage. Suppose that sort of counts right? :P

"You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to sgt_flyer again." Awesome!

That's still a three stage to orbit.

Easy fix: give a lot of reputation to different people

update : Nightshot of my saturn V mini (still some various tweakings to do, but the form should be almost final :))

(i've placed some basic 5 parts illuminator probes 4-way around the launchpad :P)

edit : took a new nightshot with mün above the VAB this time ;)

Borrow?

If you have to make a 3.75m fairing just place panels around it as he has done.

How do your fairings release Rune?

MJ

Hi Gus,

I thought I had edited that comment of mine. I thought it sounded a little blunt. And that was not my intention.

Aaaanyway,

I have some really simple methods now for effective separating fairings of most sizes. I will post them to your OSCTCA thread

when I have time.

MJ
