Your First Flight

What happened in your first flight in KSP?

My flight was a rocket with a bunch of mainsails and boosters. I didn't even know how to change thrusts so the liquid engines never worked..

Same here, except my first flight was in the demo with only the 45 engine. The solid boosters worked well enough without knowing the controls though, and I was able to get at least a few km of altitude before running out of fuel.

Did the old 0.13 demo's tutorial.

When Gene Kerman told me about how WASD turned the rocket, I tried it, causing the little thing on the pad to tip over. When he said to press stage and throttle up, or something like that- it didn't go very well.

I do not remember my first flight, but I remember my first successful ship that could do mun/minmus return and 1 way Duna and Eve. I would burn straight up to an AP of about 85 Km then sideways until orbit was achieved. Ah .17 planet rush, how I miss you.

When I started I never did the tutorial. I thought "How hard can rocket science be anyways?"

My first flight was in the 1.8.3 demo, with the surprisingly newb-friendly Kerbal 1A. Good times. Never got to the Mun in the demo, but managed to put several dozen Jebs into highly elliptical orbits with the Kerbal 5.

back before the mun, not sure of the version exactly but it was mostly just a crew cabin with a bunch of solid rocket boosters, blew up a few feet off the ground, it took off though so it's a successful first flight!

Excluding the many, many intentionally self-destructing rockets I built back in the heyday of 0.11, my first proper rocket was a huge stack of fuel on a tri-coupler with engines at the bottom. It barely lifted off and, due to my not understanding how the game measured relative velocity, it never actually reached orbit. Skirted along in space for quite a ways, though.

My first flight was in the demo with the smallest stock rocket. Because a friend showed me ksp i knew how to throttle up and stage, but i didnt knew about SAS or that you could control the rocket. (He was a noob too.) so i went up as far my fuel allowed me to, and then parachuted home :).

I got overzealous and threw together a bunch of parts without struts in the 0.13 demo. Hit launch, staged it, and, well, it exploded. But it was enough to get me hooked. Any game that lets you fall on your face and fail because you did something so drastically foolish, like strapping 5 tanks to a capsule, a rocket, then surface coupling more rockets to the rocket, then boosters to the rocket, and boosters to the boosters, not using any struts, then hitting the launch button, well, that game ends up rather awesome.

My first 'true' flight was done in the 0.18 full edition. Simple little delta wing jet plane that I spiraled into the air, ran out of fuel, then crashed into the ocean. I have rarely flown rockets after that moment.

Are you my clone? I was the exact same way!

I had no idea throttle even existed until my cousin came over and showed me. I was trying to get into orbit using SRBs and Seprotrons! Heck, I even thought I could transfer solid fuel by stacking SRBs. XD

But my first flight? To be perfectly honest, I can't remember. But I know at that point in time I could usually get a few kilometers up.

I don't actually remember my actual first flight. The earliest one I do was when I built a large rocket made out of SRBs in 0.13, launching Jeb out of Kerbin's SOI (there were no planets back then). I was so proud of myself. (I couldn't even land at the Mun that time, nor estabilish an orbit around it) :D

My first actually successful (which worked as intended) flight was a (manned) "satellite" launch, when I could finally enter a stable orbit.

My first flight in the demo: I went in, without knowing anything, i really didn't know about the symmetry nodes, NOTHING. I can't really remember because it was on my laptop (that i don't have anymore).

My first flight in the full version: I knew more things now, due to fiddling in the demo, so i just threw a jumbo-64, a mainsail, two radial decouplers and two FTL-T800's with LV-N's at the bottom, then i called it a day. I can't remember much of it, but i knew that i was flabbergasted at the vast variety of parts.

My first flight was a suborbital test hop to see how far a single tank and engine would take a capsule + parachute. Then 2 tanks, 3 tanks, etc. That was 0.13, then stopped playing around 0.18 because the lag just got so bad. Back with 0.23, there's been some serious code optimization and I can play the game again! (I've got a laptop, not huge horsepower.)
