Rolls Royce Thrust Measuring Rig *Updated craft and YT clip* KVV gif

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

As some of you may remember I made a recreation of the NASA training vehicle, "Lunar Landing Training Vehicle".

Well, In one post Cupcake... left this message:

Great job, that's a very faithful re-production of the real thing. Maybe you could try the Rolls Royce thrust measuring rig next! :D

Cupcake...

I finally got around to giving it a go and it has come together better than I imagined. :D

The Rolls Royce TMR took its first tethered flight on the 3 July 1953 at Hucknall Aerodrome, Nottinghamshire, England.

It was made to test the feasibility of VTOL aircraft. It was very hard to fly due to the slow reaction of the turbo jet engine.

It was controlled by a stabilization system of four extending 'arms' that had direct-able thrust using compressed air.

The version I have made has no giro stabilization. Control is achieved using the RCS nozzles at the end of the four 'arms'.

It is impossible to control with out the RCS! :D

She is really fun to fly and a real challenge.

DL link at the bottom of the post.

Have fun!

Awesome. However, I've already got a feature for you to add to it for the next version:

An ejector seat.

Brilliant work as always, :D I think I'd rather fly your version then the real thing which was by all acounts a deathtrap (no ejector seat here!). :sealed:

Cupcake...

 Thanks Cupcake! I think I would rather fly mine too!

My LLTV has an ejector seat, the non Jeb version. But none on the TMR!

I will add that it is for use only as the real one was intended. For short test flights. So only a little fuel and, RCS.

But remember that it cannot fly without the RCS! It will simply fall from the sky without it.
