FFMpeg (you can use the command-line interface to make an instant "start recording" shortcut), or if that gives you trouble (which it does me just for KSP and nothing else), MSI Afterburner.

What program does everyone use to splice multiple vids together into one to get a video suitable for YouTube?

If you have windows, Windows Live Movie Maker works fine for this. Make sure you have the latest version installed. Your Windows update probably does not update this.

I would recommend the open source program OBS/open broadcast software. It supports both streaming and recording videos to the hd and is completely free with no limits.

It also encodes on the fly so that means much smaller filesizes than other popular payware software like fraps.

Bandicam cost me €30, it's not free unless you torrent it.

If you're on a Mac...Quicktime has a free recording function (although Screenflow is much superior).

Bandicam is not free, but based on this thread I did look into it, and found it to be a great tool. (I had previously been using FRAPS). So, I payed the $$ and will be using Bandicam for future videos (When I get a chance to get back to them...)

Bandicam is free from their official website, but you get a watermark and every 10 minutes of recording it ends your video and askes if you would like to buy the full version, not a big deal, as you just press no, and hit your record button again...

try it and see what its like..

I will try the windows movie maker first -and then see if it does the trick and move on to another app if it doesn't.

I use CyberLink PowerDirector. It does the job very nicely. It's not free though.

Both the time limit and watermark is kind of a big deal imo. Which is why I wonder why why people dont just use OBS instead?? It does the job better, is completely free and has no limits of any kind.

As far as editing my videos together, I use MS Movie Maker exclusively, as it's available for free for MS Windows users.

If you have a newer Nvidia card then Nvidias own native shadowplay is beyond good. Replaced fraps in my youtube series.

I use Windows movie maker. It works.
