Wicked Launch Mojo! (When logic fails)

KSP has made me a bit superstitious when it comes to launch time. I have a 727ton tanker that I launch regularly with no issues, unless...... It seems like any ship I launch where I have turned on the lights before launch suffers random unplanned disassembly. In my mind I know there really isn't a bug causing this, just superstition.

How about you? Any launch time mojo do you observe?

I play Dead is Dead (no save/reload) so I do tons and tons of tests with probes before I put a Kerbonaut up in something.

I do 10 tests. No more, no less. If I do less, the moment I try to launch with a Kerbal in it something happens on the launchpad and I have to abort to save him and spend 15 minutes slowly, monotonously cleaning up debris. If I do more than 10 tests then it fails on delivery; the rover lands cockeyed and I can't pilot it to the landing point or I end up without enough fuel for the return and have to send a rescue ship.

10 successful tests. No more, no less.

Moho hates me. Moho absolutely despises me. Every attempt I've tried to land on Moho has resulted in the ship collapsing on the launch pad or exploding in midair. What did I ever do to you, Moho?!

You and me both. Moho was one of the first planets after Duna that I sent an interplanetary mission to (a poor choice in retrospect), and so far I have never had a mission there that has not gone horribly wrong.

I did something similar. So far I've only sent one manned mission there, but since my fuel was inadequate, I had to send a rescue ship to pick up my Kerbal. After docking, transferring as much fuel as possible, and taking my guy home, the ship entered Kerbin's SOI with about 1-2% fuel remaining. So even the rescue ship just narrowly made the return trip. I learning an important lesson about planning adequately. :)

Weirdly I feel the same, it's like my Evian system missions always go right, my Duna missions are okay, my Joolian missions are good, but my Moho/Eelo missions always fail! I didn't try a Dres mission yet and will actually do it immediately, just to know how it goes.

Dres can be tricky as well tbh, in my case it has caught me out twice with me thinking that a ship that could go to Duna and back with a fair amount of fuel left, should be able to reach and land on Dres, which didn't turn out to be the case. I should really learn from my mistakes

I've only visited Eeloo twice, both with gravity assists from Jool, so the orbit I had before entering Eeloo SOI was more circular as it would have been had I gone straight from Kerbin, so the burn to orbit Eeloo was quite low compare to others I've seen :)

Moho I agree though is an absolute *****.

The closest I have ever gotten to landing on Moho is Bill, on EVA, out of fuel, and orbiting in a massive elliptical orbit near the edge of Moho's SOI.

It must just be cursed.

It is the only place in the solar system besides Bop that I haven't been to yet (and Bop is more or less an "I've been to the joolian system 100 times now, but I still can't justify doing it again just to visit one little moon" :sticktongue:

I just can't ever seem to find Moho... Ill set up maneuver nodes at the optimum transfer windows, from all different angles/orbit locations, yet never get a transfer... Intercepts will always be about 1/4+ of an orbit away, no matter where from. I've managed to land on every other body (where applicable) coming from Duna, and everyone apart from Moho and Eeloo from Kerbin.

Let me tell you; launching from Duna to Dres is easy peasy!

I only did one mission to Moho, it was an unmanned probe and it actually went really well! I even had enough dV left to land at one of the Moholes and play around with it. That only leaves 2 bodies to land on: Eeloo (with which I have only sent one orbiting probe to) and Tylo, which I am too terrified to attempt.

Funny, I always turn my lights on before a launch. And I make sure any landing gear have been retracted.

I've gotten a tad superstitious about my crew count on missions, now that I think of it. My first crash landing was a two-man Mun lander, my first mission to Duna had a crew of four and had to undergo some rapid PLANNED disassembly just prior to reentry, my first Eve mission had its crew of two stranded until a tanker could be launched due to lack of fuel/wonky maneuver nodes, and my latest lander catastrophe, an out-of-control ascent and crash from a vehicle that had performed perfectly nearly a dozen times before, was with a two-man lander. Maybe I should crew all my missions in increments of three. After all my space-stations never have any serious trouble and they do the ISS-style "two crews of three" rotation system.
