Add a reference of asteroid's class to its name

Recommended Posts

Perhaps also add other asteroids in similar trajectories with the same name and number but different suffix.

Say, an A asteroid and a B asteroid were in the same general trajectory (within parameters set for that trajectory).

Whichever is the largest would be the dash A, and the smallest the dash B, unless the smallest had one bigger than it, but smaller than the largest, than dash C.

That's the opposite of the point. THe idea is that the name would reveal its class so you wouldn't have to keep checking that when tracking many asteroids.

Or, as alternative: enable string that shows object size for tracked objects (I mean "Size class" in map view and tracking station). Currently, you can see it only for untracked objects (either for unknown and objects that you stopped tracking).

Fine then, make it so it's the size.

However, asteroids on similar trajectories should have the same number.

Yes. Either this, or let me rename them!

Renaming from tracking station without need for the target ship to be alive is also one of long standing suggestions. Let's hope devs will make it possible sometime, it should not be hard to implement or break something and it would be extremely convenient.

Believe it or not, it's actually possible to rename asteroids. You just have to send a ship out to them first  (EDIT: And I seem to have been ninja'd, totally throwing off my comedic timing. Bah!)

But seriously, I'd support something similar to OP's proposal, if only so I'm not having to bounce back and forth between my flight and the Tracking Station or take notes about each asteroid myself. It would be quite convenient.
