Do we need a new way of organising parts in the VAB/SPH?

However far KSP is developed there is always going to be a demand for new parts to be added and many areas still have an incomplete parts set. (e.g 0.635m, 3.75m and seaplanes) However the parts menus are already becoming very cluttered with the ones we've got let alone more.

I think that the parts menus need to be redone to make them work better with more parts in the future and allow better sorting into categories which will make them easier to find.

I know that there is a mod that does this but it would be nice to have something like it in the stock game.

There is already an unused "subcategory" parameter in the CFG files. Expect your problem to be worked on eventually.

Sorting by part diameter would make a lot of sense to me. If I'm building a 1.25m rocket, I'd rather have all the 1.25m parts (engines, tanks, batteries, reaction wheels, etc) in a single tab. Have tabs for different diameters and another for radial mounted parts.

May not be the best for all situations but it would be a useful option.

That. I don't mind the paging all that much, but you can't really tell the part size from the picture or name. I will always, always pick the wrong size reaction wheel, probe core, battery, RCS tank or decoupler first.

Until then, for whom may not know it, there is the Simple Part Organizer which does have some of these features.

Liquid fuel/oxidizer tanks, liquid fuel tanks, engines, and such would also be nice categories to have. It's getting to be hard to find the parts you're looking for now...

It would be nice to have little drop-down tabs for the parts, rather than a large array of every single one. For example, all of the 2.5 meter tanks in 1 tab, within the fuel tank tab, where you would have the liquid fuel tanks, the rocket fuel tanks, the engines, etc. all organized via size and type.

This the best design I've seen so far. It doesn't solve the problem of not knowing the size of parts by looking at them, and it doesn't allow changing the order in which parts are displayed, or disabling specific parts from showing on the lists. I, for one, would rather sea Fuel Line's on the FIRST page, thank you very much!

even playing purely stock some of the tabs seem a little bit more crowded than others. add mods and it becomes a nightmare. engines and tanks should each get their own tabs. utility needs to be busted up into like 3 different tabs (electrical could use its own tab, so could wheels). modders should be allowed to add their own tabs so they can stick all their parts there.

also is it too much to ask for each tab to remember what page you were on last time you had it selected?
