Better Atmospheres Development Thread

So for your pack we will in fact need RSS & EVE ? :P

If i can figure out how to use RSS to change atmosphere colors, then yes. I've gotten down how to change them, but now i need to figure out what in the .cfg I change to get it to stay that way.

Or maybe Rbray can implement this in EVE ? :)

Alright, Duna's makeover is turning out nicely.

I've gotten an effect where Duna looks like Mars does at noon -

799px-Mars_sky_at_noon_PIA01546.jpg

But then at sunrise/sunset it looks like this -

800px-MarsSunset_losslesscrop.jpg

All that's left is to actually figure out how i keep atmosphere color changes in RSS.

I'll post ingame pics tomorrow, I have to get some sleep. I'm going to go crazy if i don't

He'll probably implement some feature like that sometime, but for now, RSS. No resized or replaced planets though. Just atmosphere color changes.

I am pretty sure that those two pictures weren't taken on the same day. 2nd picture has clear sky with dust almost settled down, in the 1st picture a lot of dust floating in the "air". What I am trying to say, sunset on that day from the 1st picture probably wouldn't look like the 2nd picture. I've read that on Mars the sky is almost black during the day if it has been calm and dust mostly settled down and then it turns blue near the horizon when the sun is setting/rising. If it is just a regular day with all the dust stirred up then it is just yellow/reddish all the time. So there are probably no transition from pic1 to pic2 happening during just one day.

I don't think I'll be using this until I can play without having to faff with the atmosphere settings in the tracking station (my game crashes every half hour due to mods) but I am so very very impressed with this. When I first saw the pictures of Kerbin with the Mun on the horizon I was pretty much expecting it to be a photoshop touchup. Turns out I was pretty wrong.

All the best! Can't wait to see your progress.

Thanks for the info!

This is fixed in the new version, as EVE 7-2 fixes the saving bug.

Oh my that looks beautiful.

How does it effect performace?

Not at all for me.

I thought I saw this before, but is there a way to tone down the aliasing?

You can set the fadedist in the alt+n menu. This however does not save properly in V2. It will in V3.

Later today, then tomorrow morning for me GMT+1 :D

I'm totally in, it looks really really good. Is it me or does Laythe looks a bit like it has some stereoscopic effect on the sides of the globe due to the clouds ? :P

Ooh, one more thing - will Duna still have the dust storms in V3? Or is this going to take advantage of EVE's update and be a separate cfg?

Little trivia, that pic of Duna was taken with Dust storms on! :D

Yes, it will use a separate cfg. Simply rename the dust storms cloudLayers.cfg to some like "cloudLayers-Dunaduststorm".

Hm, I'll check it and see if there's any tweaks i can make to fix whatever is causing that before release.
