Anyone else holding off on playing KSP?

What I mean, is anyone else here waiting on playing KSP till the game is finished?

I've bought the game, and I've played around with it some, and LOVE it, but I'm purposely not playing it right now, waiting for more updates. I just don't want to get bored of this game before it's feature-complete.

I'm REALLY looking forward to the finished Career mode, and all the things that entails. There's many things I haven't gotten to do in this game yet, like going to other planets in the system, but I wanna hold those events off until I have a finished game to really enjoy it all in.

Any one else here like this? Or can you just not wait? :P

There are periods where I play a lot, followed by weeks or even months where I hardly play at all. Each time new features come out or new ideas strike me that I just have to try, the game is always around for me to mess with, and it gets better every time new stuff gets added. I've really enjoyed being able to follow along and experience how much has changed over time.

I'm not holding off playing. Wish I had more time to play, as a matter of fact. Probably get bored of the game before it's finally called "complete". Or not.

2011 January 17: v0.0

1 April 2014: v0.23.5

so.. 2026sh?

Don't you jynx it.

I suspect it'll be at least another year, though, because they want a 64 bit version, but Unity is just now stabilizing the 64 bit stuff, afaik. Although, frankly, I'm not much an expert in this regard.

And I started a save file just now with some mods and stuff that I decided I'm going to keep it at version .23 until I accomplish what I want to accomplish in it. Keeping up with updating both mods and the game itself is just rather overwhelming, and frankly, .23 has everything I want to make it fun to play with RSS, and if there's other stuff I want more, then I just get another installation of the game at whatever the latest version is.

[inigo]I do not think version numbers work the way you think they work[/inigo]

To answer the question: No way! I'm in fact rushing through my current projects as quickly as possible so I can start fresh when the next Alpha version comes out :)

No.

I am, however, doing Sandbox at the moment. (Well, career hacked to be like Sandbox but with SCIENCE, but same difference). I'm certainly holding off playing career mode until the .24 update at least.

With mods I don't think there's anything to get bored of for a long time. Career mode just feels like an official mod to sandbox to me anyway, in the same way ARM is. If I don't want to catch asteroids I don't (I've been vaccinated) and if I don't want to grind science I don't.

Looking forwards to RT2 being fixed though. I fancy playing with communications satellites.

Why on Earth would anyone want to wait until it's finished? Why would anyone want to postpone all the fun they could have right now, on the chance that they might have more someday later? That's like buying an awesome toy, and never taking it out of the box in hopes it'll be "worth more" someday.

I know what you mean, I am doing that with several other games, like Rimworld and Project Zomboid. But this game has quite a bit to it and with all the mods and periodic updates I think it is safe to play KSP. I just started a career save using the Better Than Starting Manned mod and it changes game play considerably. And there are other ones like Real Solar System and Mission Controller that do similar things, so there is always something new to try.

KSP has been the game I play the most for the past few months. On the other hand, many of my friends are interested in the game, but they haven't bought it yet. The world is full of good games, so they feel there is no point in playing games that are still in testing stage.

It is really only Career mode left. I don't think that will be worth the wait.

By playing now, you get to be part of the "game development adventure". Something that you don't hear much of, and sadly too many don't understand or appreciate.

Some things you are missing out on...

* Enjoying all the new, changed and fixed stuff in every patch release - sometimes it's like a whole new game

* Gossip, speculation, hope, argument and all sorts of discussion about the game as it is and what it will become

* Exclusive access to game breaking bugs

* Joining in on community mob riots over disappointments

This, pretty much word for word. Though I think the odds of it boring me are pretty slim, I haven't lost interest in several years of play.

I've been playing since it was far less complete than it is now, it's always been enjoyable even if it has a few rough edges. I think anyone waiting for 1.0 to play is denying themselves hundreds of satisfying hours of play.

I've tested alpha versions of games, they either barely work or they are just graphics with no game built yet. I'd say KSP left alpha a long time ago.

This is more like an MMO, where the game is already released but updated regularly with additional content.

Either way, I'm currently avoiding career until it has cost and reputation at a minimum. Mostly because I don't think it'll be enjoyable to keep starting again whenever a new career feature is released. I still play sandbox, but that's mostly to test mods, which is really where I'm spending all my time at the moment.

Do you think they might just be scared they can't match your ability Jouni? You do some good stuff :-)

I've been playing KSP on and off quite a bit. But i didn't return to play it for ARM. Currently i'm waiting for 0.24 to be released since i want to start a new career and to test the new mission features in career mode. ARM is not exciting to me.

That makes sense. I was about to chime in and say there's really not much point in holding off anymore, since the game is getting pretty robust. But that's an excellent point. We really only have about half of the career mode right now.
