[1.12.X] Tantares - Stockalike Soyuz and MIR [16.1][28.05.2024][Mars Expedition WIP]

Well, terrible puns on Arianespace (French), CRISA (Spanish) and/or Airbus (French) would be appropriate. Or offend both of these nations by going with something German.

Marianespace. KRISA. AirTram.

CRISA (they made ATV) got eaten by Astrium, which in turn got consumed by Airbus.

EDIT: Reading that, I realized that the obvious flag would be a fish eaten by a bigger fish, eaten by an even bigger fish.

Hah!

I like it (The fish idea).

For now, most parts will be split between old Alnair and Tantares (Because it is taking me far, far too long to design some "simple" logos).

I don't know why I never downloaded this before, but my new .90 career is leaning very hard on these parts.

Thank you very much, they're gorgeous.

Very nice to hear!

Thanks!

I'd suggest "Rofu"/ローフ for the name of Japanese agency. :D

You can understand the meaning from transliteration. :D

Edit: As it was planned to be IRL, Mir is put in orbit by Buran shuttle. :3

Could use "Tanto" for japanese agency )))

Oh my... Those are two rather nice names.

I have a bit of nostalgia for Tanto from Morrowind (And it fits nicely with Tantares).

But Rofu, for obvious reasons...

@Niemand

That's gotta be one of the best things I've ever seen. I had no idea the real Buran would have had that kind of capacity, that's awesome!

ATV Engine Nuovo

Still lacking an itty bit of AO and stuff, but representative of the final design.

Ideas for leftover UV space?

Cool!

Never heard of it.

I'm familiar with the CSTS

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/12/Euro-CTS-2008.jpg/1024px-Euro-CTS-2008.jpg

But this is quite a different (And sleek) design!

I'll consider :)

The ATV had so many possibilities, it's a shame they cancelled the program after only five flights. I will be sad to see Georges Lemaitre leave the ISS next month. But of all the proposals for ATV, the CARV concept was the best. I hope you can make it someday!

It really is a loss! Not the first time something like this has happened though. The TKS had a number of unmanned test flights, and the Buran made one as well, and yet neither of them saw manned use.

Hopefully the Orion won't turn out that way!

There has been some discussion of a high capacity (5-7?) command pod for a while. I think making the Crew Transport Vehicle (CARV) would be a good choice! Because the ATV is already so big, I think it makes sense.

Also, from a role playing perspective I really like the evolution of technology it suggests: From unmanned cargo carrier, to two person + cargo carrier, to high capacity command craft.

Despite it not happening in real life, it seems like the sort of thing a space company/administration might do. So yeah, I'd say have the two person variant you've made, and have an alternate CARV.

I second DGatsby, a 5 seat CARV would be really awesome! Additionally, if you put that stock round light around the docking port, a 2.5-1.875 adapter, a 1.875 fuel tank with two of your 1x4 Vega panels and an 1.25 or 1.875 engine ypu will get a PPTS-esque thing. :)

At least ATV will live on in the form of the Orion Service Module!

How about an adapter/docking tunnel thingy so you can make Excalibur-Almaz with the pressurized ATV part and the VA capsule? Or maybe 3.75m stockalike Orion capsule to go with ATV service module!

Maybe the CARV? or aternate MSS engine? or PARES?

Now that I think about it, there are no 4 or 5 man capsules at all. So yes, a CARV would be really cool.

Well, erm, I see a pattern emerging :)

Is there enough space for a CARV module? I'm not sure... Probably, if some shortcuts are taken.

One tricky thing about making a CARV, not many pictures of it.

EDIT: ALV's manufacturer, Kerunichev, should be renamed to Krenichev or Kernichev IMO.

I am thinking of just bringing all the launchers under Tavio Engineering for simplicity, at the moment :)

A stock-alike Orion, it's a nice idea, but no way in hell would it fit in that space, haha :)

I like the Excalibur/almaz idea. Or a generic "Turn the ATV into something else" type part.

I haven't been able to find much info about the CARV, but I don't think it was intended to carry passengers. From what I can tell, it is similar to the Dragon V1, but much bigger.

True, the VA capsule never got use beyond flight test. But don't forget the TKS evolved into the FGB which became the basis for the expansions of Mir and the Zarya module on ISS.

Hopefully the Orion won't turn out that way!

Unfortunately they've got years before they'll have a proper manned mission, assuming it gets funded at all. In the meantime, both the CST-100 and Dragon V2 will have flown flight test and presumably start commercial crew runs.

At least ATV will live on in the form of the Orion Service Module!

And perhaps with Russia's PPTS as well. But that may very well go the way of Kliper...

Alternatively, you could make one set of textures that could be the CARV and a more elongated conical capsule like this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7419793.stm

EDIT: also, high res CARV: http://www.flashespace.com/icones/mars08/atv/evolution/01g.jpg

My Koyuz-I on a flyby of Duna. These parts have become a serious workhorse/backbone in my career mode - the tantares stock-sized R-7 is by far my most commonly used low/medium lifter.

Thanks so much for the excellent parts!

As a Russian this font make cringe a little because font makers have no idea about the Russian letters pronunciations. Why not use something NOT trying to look like Cyrillic letters?

Something like this would still look military/soviet style and be readable not only for the Western audience: http://www.dafont.com/bombardier.font or http://www.dafont.com/russian-pb.font

Although, I like the idea in general

Aaah, great. Thanks for these.

Looking at the CARV, it has quite an interesting design actually. It is very similar to the ATV at the front (but, "pinched" a bit), couldn't see that in the lower res images.

I think, a 4-5 man capsule, I would like to do the PPTS proper, rather than a relatively unknown European ATV concept.

A CARV for me would be 2-3 man for sure, probably...

Very nice to hear thanks!

I love it, for a pack of craft that are typically associated with low-earth-orbit it's always interesting to see interplanetary designs :)

Well, I am definitely using this!

That is, if that is okay with yourself? :)

Although, I don't want to upset the native Russian speakers with it

I think I recreate the design using latin characters. But, still, many thanks tg626 for the concept!

Christ, we are getting close to 3000 posts... I can hardly believe it. :^o

Sure, I can understand that. A three person CARV would still be great though, although I think 3-4 seats would be better than 2 or 3. The CARV would fit so well with the ATV parts you've already made, and like the Apollo D2 and Fuji it is a really fun little journey into what-if.

Very true, the TKS helped a lot with MIR and the ISS. It will be interesting to see how much the Orion is used in comparison to the Dragon and CST, especially if the ARM mission gets canceled. Which it might, considering it's not at all popular in Congress. Really the only people interested in it are the President and Charles Bolden, and Bolden only probably because he has to promote what they tell him.
