[1.12.X] Tantares - Stockalike Soyuz and MIR [16.1][28.05.2024][Mars Expedition WIP]

Whatever you want to do is fine.

Done a while ago, I'll texture it soonish...

Outstanding!

Great music choice.

Wait... PMAs?? Did I miss something? That's awesome. What sizes do they adapt??

Yeah, I was actually pretty happy with that choice. It'll make a cameo in the main video. Should be a good idea of what to expect. :)

Thanks for the links. I plan to leave out the Lunar Module Adapter fairing when I model the Saturn 1B, since it can be made with Procedural Fairings.Stock fairings can be used if you're some kind of barbaric heathen. Because of this, people will be able to use either 2.5 meter parts or 1.875 parts, although one or the other will look a bit out of proportion.

I'm not sure either whether or not this will be a Tantares clone or it's own type of mod. I will attempt to texture it in a stockalike form, after seeing all of Beale's beautiful parts.

Yeah, the petal fairing assembly is pretty simple really if you understand how P-Fairings' interstages work. I can't imagine using the stock fairings... Euuuughh... *twitch*

Didn't show it off ever, as far as I know.

It's 1.25 to (Gasp) 0.9375. Though I may probably do a 0.625 version.

..4. 0.9375m is literally a certain leader of a prominent political party in Germany from 1920–1925..

*laughs uncontrollably* Owh me sides! :D Haven't had a laugh like this for a while, thanks! :) Personally, as I've already mentioned before I love the new docking port additions!

Good to know about the IVA progress, Beale! Doing the inside of something is always more work than doing the outside. Don't know how many times I've built my Fallouty bunkers and outposts in Minecraft but outside is always easier than doing the framework and decorating inside.

That's very very pretty, I love it :)

A shuttle would be nice to see! I notice it is all Tantares parts too, might be fun to blast up a few Fus-Tek or SXT (is that up to date?) parts as USA segments

Comrade, no need! Tantares has all. Mostly work. You see!

@Beale

About the FAR issue with the Vos-909 engine and fairing. I believe if you add colliders to the fairing that will fix the issue. FAR needs to see them as a solid object, so if that is what would make it solid so a kerbal wouldn't fall through that is what it needs. This is my best guess as I am no part maker by any means, so if anything sounds wrong say so. Thanks I love this mod.

I should produce a few more IVA props first :)

The Kliper pays a visit (unless I missed that in the last images)! Very nice.

Nice!

You may be right! Though, I can swear that the stock engine fairings are without a collider (with the exception of the NERVAs). But, maybe wrong.

I'll do a double check, many thanks! :)

Alright, I have the S-IV-B fuel tank modelled. And I started working on the J2 engine, but Wings3D crashed and I decided that I should leave it alone before continuing.

I have finished Gemini 4, and flew it into orbit today. Didn't make it to the EVA or four day duration yet, but I should be able to finish the mission and post it here before the end of the anniversary.

First of all, this mod is incredible and has added more to my user experience and enjoyment of the game than any other mod I can think of.

Second of all- did I miss the boat on the PPTS and Kliper releases? I've searched the thread and I can't seem to find download links. I *really* would love a stockalike 2.5m crew vehicle with more than 3 Kerbals....it's just gravy that it has that stockalike Soviet swag.

Kliper and PPTS are still in development. The pods have accidentally snuck out of Beale's computer a few times. They're more than likely floating around here somewhere, but neither pod is ready by any means for release. Not sure how many Kerbals Beale decided the PPTS should have. I believe it's only slightly larger than the Mk1-2 Pod. 4 Kerbals perhaps? Three sitting across the bottom, and one sitting forward? I know the IRL interior of the PPTS is extremely ambitious.

To avoid further crashes, try change the preview mode to "delayed".

This usually helps a bit!

Will be good to see Gemini screenshots! :)

Hello!

Yep, curtquarquesso has said all there is currently, both are still on the table, just pushed around a bit.

The Kliper poses a problem, as it is still stricky to fly. But, the PPTS will be not so bad once I get started.

Well, you'd expect a vehicle which has to survive like 2000C temperature change, combined with 2000m/s velocity change, to be difficult to fly ;) Else it probably wouldn't be able to cover the speed range.

I was wondering, what's the reason for the huge amount of docking ports there are now? are different sizes compatible with each other? are the non standard sizes compatible with the stock docking ports? are the non androgynous ports compatible with themselves?

The various docking ports are intended to mimic historical parts. I recommend that you delete them if you're not interested in craft replicas.

Gemini 4 is finished, my tribute to the mission is ready to be shared!

BNUHjQD.png

Gemini 4 Crew Portrait. Munlin Kerman (L) and Steve Kerman ® pose with a model rocket and a mock up of the Gemini Reentry Module.

This was actually taken after the mission. Oops!

The rest of the pictures need to go in a spoiler tag, because there are about thirty that I've chosen to share out of the 200+ I took during the mission.

tzaTMmv.jpg

Gemini 4 lifts off on a Titan II rocket. I gave up on using the proton tanks and engine, because they were giving me strange center of thrust issues and were uncontrollable.

The Launch Tower got lost during the switch to the ugly rocket seen here.

1bIgsPL.png

Eh, it kind of looks like a Titan II from this angle.

OZoJHR6.png

Second Stage burning for orbit. We "borrowed' this from our Russian friends over at the Kosmodrome. Don't tell anyone, it's a secret.

FkLGcqe.png

Gemini 4 in orbit. EVA is scheduled for the third revolution, after an attempt to rendezvous with the Titan's second stage.

m29tCeg.png

Steve brought a camera up with him, and got this picture of Gemini's interior with Kerbin outside the window.

99Vw061.jpg

Damn. I burned up most of the fuel during the rendezvous, which failed anyway. This could be bad.

LvVL0kP.png

Sunrise on the third orbit. KSC has given Gemini a Go for cabin depressurization and hatch opening.

BhPlkkM.png

Steve Kerman climbs out of the hatch and into the emptiness outside.

hAqV962.png

Steve mounted his camera to his helmet and got plenty of first person POV photos during his spacewalk.

tKn1mEz.png

Inspecting the horizon sensors on the spacecraft. Yes, this is accurate. They had horizon sensors.

VyPODv0.png

Moving around to the engine area. Future missions will use this area as a work station.

wV6gr71.png

Hmm, let's see if I can make a Kerbal version of Ed White's famous EVA photo.

A spur of the moment artificial eclipse of the Sun photographed by a Hullcam on the rear of the spacecraft.

Steve: "Got any messages for me?"

Munlin: "Yeah, KSC says 'Get back in!"

xgoClfc.png

Cabin repressurized after an eleven minute EVA.

jnpL2Qn.png

The crew disabled SAS and RCS to conserve propellant and battery power during the four day duration flight that followed the EVA.

K31Ging.png

Four days later, the spacecraft burns off all it's remaining propellant to deorbit.

31dIx1O.png

Equipment Module separated, only a few minutes left to go!

yE0vda1.png

Photo taken during reentry.

UEprmbs.png

Gemini 4 is back in radio contact and has been sighted by the Recovery Task Force.

l3DRBC7.png

Parachute deployed. Gemini is descending about six kilometers away from the Recovery ship, remarkably close for an uncontrolled reentry.

d1St1uM.png

Recovery Transponder Antenna extended.

XWbYgrG.png

Splashdown! Gemini 4 is back home, and America is even with the USSR in the Space Race!

I had planned this whole recovery operation with a helicopter (KAX) and KAS winches to sling Gemini undernath the helicopter and fly it back to the ship, but I couldn't get the helicopter to play nice. :(

Surprise! I have a bonus photo of something else I've been working on with the Ariane SRB!

Wow, I really like the look of the Mir Modules with 2.5m docking ports on the docking end. Really interesting.

Like CrisK said, they're there for accuracy. 0.9375m is better for replicas, but does clutter a bit. I think Beale should consider removing the 1.25m based 0.625m docking ports. He'll be making some adapters at some point to better support the 0.9375m parts as they can be awkward for some people who aren't a fan of excessive clipping or TweakScale.

Wow. Blown away. I especially love the little crew portrait and vehicle model. Please do this for all future manned missions. Very faithful Gemini configuration. If you feel like doing another Gemini mission, I have an Agena you can borrow. :)

Ares I-X looks like it'll be a fun mission. Surprising how little-known that mission was.

Is anyone else having issues with the exhaust effects? Whenever I try to launch, the exhaust has started before I've ignited the engines.

Yep. Known bug.

Decided to take a break from the replicas, and just make something fun for once. It sucked.

I call it the Tipsy Lemon.

ThdbbRl.png

k4F40ti.png

It was obnoxiously top-heavy when running empty, and failed to reach orbit. It looked cool, but flew like a lemon.

Thanks! I promise, I'll get the helicopter working in time for Gemini 5 in August.

Ares 1X? No. That there is a full grown Ares 1, second stage and all. The only thing it's missing is Orion. That rocket carries a scanning satellite.

I'm getting a strange issue with the latest version of Tantares. In my Technology Tree, every Tantares part is duplicated 3 times:

5rAO3oS.png

And some of these duplicated parts actually don't show up in the editor, especially the antennas in the picture above.

I tried doing a clean re-install of RemoteTech, Tantares, and TantaresLV, and cleared my ModuleManager cache. The problem still persists. :(

Here's my KSP Log if it helps: http://ge.tt/1RA9wqH2/v/0?c

In the interim, I can try and balance PPTS. Combine it with the Fuji heatshield, some sort of 2.5m decoupler, a 2.5-1.875m adapter from the Salyut or TKS parts, and a tweakscaled Tantares Service Module (or if you're feeling dangerous, a rescaled one using config edits), and the solar panels of your choice can give a decent PPTS. Using the 1.25m APAS or TKS probe (1.25m one) as a docking port, and you're set.

EDIT: Regarding Tantares TMA, it still doesn't look good at all... I'm not sure why. Tried upping the texture resolution to no avail. So for now I'm not going to go nuts over the texturing and just enjoy and play KSP for the first time in a while.

I've had similar problems if you upgrade/replace/etc a parts mod mid-career.

The only solution is to do some DANGEROUS manual editing on your save file to remove the duplicate parts, or restart your save.

Everytime I rendez-vous with the ATV in orbit the Capella command pod is tweaked down to 1.25m and the craft is bugged. I wanted to try it with curtquaseo tweakscale config but the link leads to a 404.

I wanted to post a mission profile I designed using my PPTS,PTK,ATV and Excalibur with replicas launchers and mission patches made with inkscape for every craft.

But then the ATV killed my party and I gotta go to work so I'm wondering if I just missed the right link for the configs or if it is actually a real problem.

Anyhow, If it doesn't work I'll just re-create the crafts on a stock install with no tweakscale cuz I got cool stuff to share :D
