I've finally reached the Mun

After 681 hours of playing KSP, I've finally reached the mun after countless attempts.

Wow, 681 hours is a lot. Maybe try landing on Minmus now, you might find it slightly easier, the only added difficulty is its orbital inclination.

Congrats. I probably put in nearly as many hours on the same quest. Back in ?0.18? 0.17? when I started, I sent more landers to Mun and Minmus then I would care to count, and they all touched down safely, with plenty of dV left... and fell over. I wish I had twigged to the fact that you can use SAS to right a vehicle on a low-grav body...

I still remember how badly I fared in my first time on KSP. I had the same problem as you - fuel.

The actual landing part is easier for sure, once you manage to get into orbit of it. I found landing hard at first due to not being able to judge how far away the ground was, but on Minmus if you go for the flats they are 0 on the altimeter which helps.

Congratulations, sir! The first landing is always a special thing! I remember my first landing... I destroyed the probe while trying to get a picture of it.

I managed to land on the Mun somewhat early on in my KSP Career (though the first 2 times the lander tipped over and I couldn't get out) However, it took me about 5x longer to figure out how to get back from the Mun....

For me landing intact and with enough fuel for the return isn't that hard. Landing upright, however, is in the lap of the krakens.

Congrats! The first time I got to the Mun was in the old demo. I crashed.

But I have yet to get to Duna. Or anywhere else, for that matter. I need to play more.

Would you care to elabotate? What I mean is, what was it that finally solved the problem for you - better gravity turn, more efficient staging, moar boosters?

I finally got there because my friend told me to use asparagus staging which didn't really work. I got there using the new large fuel tanks

That's probably how long it would have taken me if I had not watched some youtube videos for some pointers. I purposely stayed away from landings because "I wanted to do it myself." I managed one Mun landing and return then about 1-12 more tries that were failures, before I finally watched a youtube tutorial on it and saw all my mistakes.

Today I returned to kerbin on the first try, no problems thanks to parachutes
