Waiting between forum searches

Yes -- something I just noticed today. When I go to a user's profile and click latest started threads, and then if I go back to click a different link, it tells me I have to wait 5 seconds. What is this about? It seems totally unnecessary and if it's new I suggest it be removed (in my opinion)

It will get quite tedious to have come to this message every time I browse the forums.

It's something I'm testing to see if it helps reduce forum load, how are you actually triggering the message though? I can't get the message by doing what you describe.

It should only be affecting the search function.

Just go to a profile and click the "Find latest posts" link on the left, then hit back and click "Find latest started threads"... I believe that vBulletin caches the search results and allows the request if cached so you need to pick a random profile, e.g. now that I've done both of these searches on my profile (and on Woopert's) you can't repeat it, but you can on someone else's...

5 seconds is so short it only really affects people who either click the wrong link or make a typo in their search. I've seen several vBulletin forums that have turned this on, supposedly to reduce load, but when the complaints start the admins just claim it is necessary without ever showing any evidence that it does actually reduce the load...

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
