Is it appropriate for adult adult watching cartoons

Recently I've noticed that often I watch cartoons, I mean in my spare time when I do not have anything to do at the university. I'm 28 I do not know if it's appropriate that I watched cartoons, these are not new cartoons, these new with , kids are watching today, I just can not digest.

I watch these on which I grew up, like Duck Tales, Chip and Dale, Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, Telespin, Animaniacs, Looney Tunes.

Or my beloved "Mysterious Cities of Gold " :D often minimizes the window when my mom enters my room , because I felt ashamed, I think I would be less embarrassed if she caught me watching ****, than these cartoons :D

Do not get me wrong, my mom is a wonderful compassionate woman (I really wish everyone to have such mom like my mom :-)), loving in the philosophy of Socrates, Plato, and Lao Tzu, my mom loves philosophies, often urged me to read with her Dialogues of Plato, Laozi or poems, but not Greek or the more Chinese( to be truth i would like Sun Tzu more than Laozi :D ) philosophy does not interest me too much. As for cartoons do not want my mom thought that her son is a moron :-)

But i know that she love original Disney cartoons, she was born i late 40's. My mom once told me that she loved to go cinema for Disney cartoon, but that was expansive, and life in post II World War Poland was really hard, so she does not watch often. My mom told me that when Polish State Television, started first experimental tv broadcast, she loved to watch Disney on Public TV set on Common room in apartment block where she lived. In communist Poland not everyone could to afford own tv sets. My mom once told that with all family she watched Neil Armstrong at my aunt her sister private tv set (Poland was only country in communist block who broadcast Apollo 11 lunar landing for with your communist party first secretary Edward Gierek was scolded by Leonid Brezhnev, for spreading the American imperialist propaganda, but our First Secretary Gierek replied that Brezhnev regrets that hurt our fraternal Soviet Union, but ne could to deprive citizens of Polish, such epochal events like landing on the moon, even if it made by the U.S. imperialists) :D

Damn It think I deviate from the topic, and I was concerned only about whether not ashamed to watch cartoons :D

From one proud adult (kidless) watcher of kids shows, especially good cartoons and the best of the 90s, there is nothing wrong if you watch cartoons.

I often talk with my mom thus shy often yells at me for working on computer in late night, as it now almost 3 AM, if she knew that i'm writing on forum and not sleeping my she would certainly scolded for that, she often told that i have spent to much time on computer, i'm working on my college assignments and writing here :)

BTW Speaking about scolding what do you think about our Polish first secretary Gierek, who decided that Polish state TV would live broadcast Neil Armstrong and buzz Aldrin lunar landing to the Polish public, despite Soviet Union and Brezhnev objections?

No you should not be ashamed. It's more then normal and you certainly aren't the only one watching them (Disney cartoons especially, they are watched by all ages) or else anime wouldn't be as popular as it is now (Unless you don't define anime as a cartoon, in which case it's fair game).

If you feel REALLY emasculated watch Happy Tree Friends.

Edit: No, don't.

Not at all, cartoons are just another medium of entertainment and art. As are live action movies and video games.

I should clarify by saying there is no shame.

Even cartoons aimed at kids have a number of jokes in them that are aimed more at adults (not risque content, just requiring a more sophisticated understanding of the world). It's pretty clear that adults are meant to enjoy them, too.

If you like them, watch them and don't feel bad.

I think it is just the same old story: The older generation looks down on the hobbies of the next.

And it all comes down to personal taste.

OK, some cartoons are just silly-funny and maybe appeal more easily to the humor of kids, but other kids movies/TV-shows also carry a message.

I am 35 years old and I am dying for Kung Fu Panda 3 to come out already! :P

You are going to be dead a really long time. You will be alive for an eyeblink. Do not waste one second of it by caring what others may think of you for watching a cartoon. Entertainment is entertainment, and escapism is escapism. Assigning status to the variety is absurd.

I watch cartoons from time to time. Kids cartoons sometimes. Do remember you also have adult cartoons. And Cartoons for both teen, adolescent and adults alike. Take Family guys or south park for example.

Or what about all the daddies and mommys whom are watching snow white with their 2-3 year old. You think they are just watching with boredom hoping for the movie to end?

No! They probably like it very much to. I'm 22 years old. And about almost a year ago I felt the urge to watch those many cartoons again I watch when I were young. Some of those cartoons indeed turned out pretty awfull

to watch as a adult. Some cartoons are just really specifically aimed at young people. Other cartoons on kid networks can actually be watched by grown ups on the other hand.

TLDR: Just watch cartoons! They're fun!

Why would there be any shame? As with any hobby or passion, it is fine as long as you make sure you do not neglect your duties or relationships. If those things are taken care of, go crazy with it.

AFAIK, America is about the ONLY place that has given cartoons the stigma of being "just for kids."

It is not the country, it is those specific people.

Well I'm 27 and I'm a big fan of the Tinkerbell series. Honestly for a series of movies about a bunch of fairies it's actually quite enjoyable and not all that girly (hell they have an entire guild of mechanical engineers of which the title character is a part of)

Depends on the cartoon. Some aren't intended for kids at all, some have references and themes that work on an adult level that went be picked up on by kids. Even amongst cartoons that are for kids some are well enough made that an adult can find them interesting, I've got two kids and some of the shows they watch are alright. Some are pretty bad though.

I'd say it's only a problem if you're only watching cartoons. Too much of anything isn't good for you.

Anything you yourself accept as appropriate for you, is appropriate for you. If others thing it is appropriate for you is others problem, not yours. As far as you dont hurt or otherwise negatively influence too many other people, or as far as law permits you, you should do what you please.
