Two thoughts for the purpose of the statue:

1 - Awards for the logo contest they had... 5 months ago? Can't remember. I still don't think they've announced the results.

2 - Achievements? It'd be great if the game introduced these for hitting milestones.

My Kredits are on the former.

Also, what's it called? A "Kerbie"? A "Jebbie"?

It looks more like a social/community award than anything parts-wise. If it was in the game, it wouldn't have been announced by Rowsdower.

Guys I figured it out.

It's an asteroid.

What you have to do to get it is capture 9001 E class asteroids and bring them to the defeated Kraken on Bop.

There you have to lay them out in a patern resembling that Kerbal, with the Kraken itself as the top pixel.

Once you did this, wait 1 year and the statue will spawn as an asteroid. It's as big as 10 E class asteroids, and orbits the sun retrograde, near Eloo's orbit

I've got it, I think. The golden idol will be hidden in a deep cavern (a Mohole, maybe?) into which you must go by EVA to retrieve it, avoiding all sorts of perils along the way.

Agreed, I think it's going to be a physical thing, given to someone who's done a lot for KSP. Though probably not solid gold!

Given the other little hints about giving a boost to content creators I think is spot-on. Perhaps to the big youtubers etc

If you're throwing it in a retrograde orbit, down near Moho would be a much bigger pain than by Eloo, killing twice Moho's orbital velocity would be a much greater pain than twice Eloo's. Of course, we'd all just do a plane change far above Eloo. So then, instead of placing it near Moho's orbit, we place it IN Moho's orbit, retrograde. so you have less than 13 days to reach it before it collides with Moho. Then some mechanism so that the craft that placed the last asteroid has to be the one to make the rendezvous :-)
