SQUAD'S Kerbin Cup Add-On Discussion Thread

Hello, all,

You've probably by now seen the announcement of the two things that SQUAD has put forward to tie in with the ongoing World Cup. Consider this the official thread for discussing all things related to the official "Kerbin Cup" add-on, and feel free to share your concerns and experiences with the mod thus far. In the interests of keeping threads about the add-on from overwhelming the front page, please confine all discussion of the add-on to this thread.

Cheers :)

Well, the footballs make a nice little toy. They must be about the only thing in KSP that isn't made of explodium! Bounce pretty well, but I haven't been able to curl the ball.

Seem a bit rough around the edges though. The attachment point isn't matching the surface of the model, and the angle they're fired off at seems to behave oddly, in that I can rotate the parts and get no change sometimes.

And I was greatly disappointed not to get a "Kick" option when I EVAed a Kerbal over to the ball.

Only issue is that they're physicsless parts... and a decoupler. I think the devs should have learned from the ARM Pack decoupler that physicsless decouplers summon the kraken. For example, if I try to decouple one in space, most of the time it will just suddenly lose all velocity. Thankfully I can fix that myself.

Otherwise it's an awesome mod.:D

Tried to blow the giant ball around with a K2RL (sic) engine using a sideways rig. Oddly, if I used two engines so the powerplant wouldn't move, neither did the (uncoupled) ball, but as soon as I shutdown one engine, then the ball would go one way while the powerplant went the other.

Which the crew did'nt enjoy so much. But the ball did move.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll bring this up to the crew tomorrow.

Oh, that's no good

So I just thought of a really cool use for these things, I'm testing it now and it seems to work without a hitch. Here's a hint:

Why did I not think of that! Haha...

All I did was accidentally kill a Kerbal while trying to scatter several of them (the balls not the Kerbals) around the launchpad area with a rocket. You see, kids, sports are dangerous.

Tried using launch clamp to keep the 'catapult' on the launch pad?

This look cool though! What's in the next update, goalposts with working nets? :D

Who wants to go on KMP and play car (rover) football? Use the Top Gear rules!

It was late and I was just trying to quickly cobble something together, so launch clamps didn't occur to me. That works much better, thanks! 244m! Now we finally have a proper cannonball!

That was going to be the next step. My Tylo rescue rover should work well for that

Managed to do that, it flew ~275 meters, about 2-3 football stadiums. Try to catch that, Cesar. ^^

EDIT: I was suprised as nobody did a challenge like this, so i did it: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/82977-Biggest-kick-wins%21-KSP-Penalty-kick-challenge Edited by TheScareCake!

The two config file for parts looks quite unprofessional, lot's of blank lines, useless comments (as many/all stock parts), model named "NewModel" (both), and doesn't take care of the known issue with physic significance + decoupler is quite a shame actually.

It will be also the time to get rid of the old habits of using low poly, this is no longer the limit and saying "don't forget people with poor computers or tablets" has no value against unity cpu usage which lead to have poor performances even of very high-end computers.
