TranceaddicT
Hi gang. I seem to either not properly understand what RT2 does or it's not working right for me.I have a virgin KSP testbed - Squad, RT2 v1.4.1, MM 2.2.2k, no NASA.If I launch a Probodobodyne Okto on it's own (Probe, Batteries, Stabalizer, Tank, Engines), I loose connection at roughly 300,000m. Slap a Communitron-16 on and I can get out to 16.195Km.Any ideas as to what is happening? I've even tested this with RT2 v1.4.0; same results. And oh, it's generally a good idea to put antennas on things. Kinda the point of the mod

TranceaddicT
Do you have repeaters(other craft) for the transmission? It's line of sight, so the curvature of Kerbin will prevent constant comms with ksc.The problem is not NO communications. The problem is valid communication. In my active game I have a small sci-sat with 2xCommunitron-16s making valid contact with KSC. The problem here is it is currently in orbit around Mun. With Mun itself at 10.4Mm and Communitron-16s OminRange at 2.5Mm, something is amiss. To test, I modified the RemoteTech_Settings.cfg to place 3 additional ground stations at 90degree intervals to prevent loss-of-comms. I change no values other than the GUID; that I incremented +1 for each station. This configuration was used to verify the 16+Mm comms.Note: This occurs in both my active and test configurations. I simply noticed something off about the distances and verified my observations in a virgin installation. J3ansley
Hi, Yes, you do not have comms to your sat because the antennas you are placing on them don't have the range needed. For your Mun satellite to function as a repeater it needs the DTS-M1 at least and it must be targeting Kerbin, MIssion Control, or a satellite that is in contact with Mission control. The relay sat has to target your vessel and your vessel needs to also target your sat. Relay satellites will need at least 2 dishes or antennas. One to link to Mission control or somthing that is linked, and then the other to link to your vessel. Your vessel would need a DTS-M1 on it targeting the Mun or your sat around the mun which has contact with Mission Control. This link will only work while your mun sat has line of sight (LOS) with the Mission control. Comm 16's are really only for vessels in orbit to com with each other. I use them to link my 3 geokerbin satellites (I might be using the 32's don't remember) to each other while they focus on other planetary bodies/moons to link the other vessels to KSC via dishes. I'm not trying to set up a network. This is a virgin installation with ONLY RT2; for testing. I am NOT having a problem with NOT having comms. I HAVE comms. The fact that I HAVE comms with 16s on a sat orbiting Mun IS the problem. I should NOT have comms.

I mean, if my signal delay is 7s, that means I'm how far away from Kerbin? oktav
A DP-10 will run without a fairing at those speeds if it's turned with its long axis parallel to the airflow. As for it still blowing off when it's inside a fairing, my hypothesis is that the ends are clipping through the fairing and causing FAR to detect it as unshielded.I've also seen reports that FAR doesn't detect the shape of the fairings right until you force it to recalculate by detaching something from the rocket (e.g. launch clamps). Does the version with the antenna in the fairing still lose the antenna if you add launch clamps?Far actually marks the antenna as shielded (until the fairings are dropped).I tried with the antenna parallel to the airflow and it's working. Also I tried with the clamps and in fact in that case I can put the antenna also perpendicular without issues

And is a good point for metrics. Not even if the antenna capacity can change that speed, because, more bandwidth means shorter time transmission.Put i think you could put the speed of light in question? Not sure what type of waves this sats uses, Microwaves? The author will have your answer, because he did it.Edit:If you read the manual on the fist post it tell you something about it.At least i read something about "Speed of Light" there:http://remotetechnologiesgroup.github.io/RemoteTech/#signal-delay Edited August 30, 2014 by Climberfx
Cilph
About comparing distance to signal delay, there's currently an issue where the signal delay is calculated wrong and not only scales with distances, but with number of satellite hops. It's on the list of things to fix. *rolleyes*.Related, the project is definitely in need of more contributors. Some management positions have opened up and more help with coding wouldn't exactly hurt. Edited August 30, 2014 by Cilph

You can find the setting in RemoteTech_Settings.cfg (SpeedOfLight = 3E+08). Quick math, means that a signal delay of 7s means a signal travel distance of approx. 2.1Bm (2,100,000,000). If it were orbiting Kerbol, that would be nearly equivalent to Duna's orbital paramaters. Technically, c is 299,792,458m/s and you could modify the value to reflect that. (I do. Other than adding the ground stations you mentioned.My active game has: modified c on additional groundStation (Extranis Space Center, I'm still zeroing in on the actual lon/lat of the Island landing strip.)Here are the files I'm using:ConsumptionMultiplier = 1RangeMultiplier = 1ActiveVesselGuid = 35b89a0d664c43c6bec8d0840afc97b2SpeedOfLight = 299792458MapFilter = Omni, Dish, Planet, PathEnableSignalDelay = FalseRangeModelType = AdditiveMultipleAntennaMultiplier = 1ThrottleTimeWarp = TrueDishConnectionColor = 0.9960784,0.7019608,0.03137255,1OmniConnectionColor = 0.5529412,0.5176471,0.4078431,1ActiveConnectionColor = 0.6588235,1,0.01568628,1GroundStations{ STATION { Guid = 5105f5a9-d628-41c6-ad4b-21154e8fc481 Name = Mission Control Latitude = -0.131331503391266 Longitude = -74.594841003418 Height = 75 Body = 1 Antennas { ANTENNA { Omni = 7.5E+07 } } } STATION { Guid = 5105f5a9-d628-41c6-ad4b-21154e8fc482 Name = Extranis Space Center Latitude = -1.131331503391266 Longitude = -71.094841003418 Height = 75 Body = 1 Antennas { ANTENNA { Omni = 7.5E+07 } } }}ConsumptionMultiplier = 1RangeMultiplier = 1ActiveVesselGuid = 35b89a0d664c43c6bec8d0840afc97b2SpeedOfLight = 3E+08MapFilter = Omni, Dish, PathEnableSignalDelay = FalseRangeModelType = RootMultipleAntennaMultiplier = 1ThrottleTimeWarp = TrueDishConnectionColor = 0.9960784,0.7019608,0.03137255,1OmniConnectionColor = 0.5529412,0.5176471,0.4078431,1ActiveConnectionColor = 0.6588235,1,0.01568628,1GroundStations{ STATION { Guid = 5105f5a9-d628-41c6-ad4b-21154e8fc481 Name = Mission Control Latitude = -0.131331503391266 Longitude = -74.594841003418 Height = 75 Body = 1 Antennas { ANTENNA { Omni = 7.5E+07 } }} STATION { Guid = 5105f5a9-d628-41c6-ad4b-21154e8fc482 Name = Mission Control Latitude = -0.131331503391266 Longitude = 106.594841003418 Height = 75 Body = 1 Antennas { ANTENNA { Omni = 7.5E+07 } }} STATION { Guid = 5105f5a9-d628-41c6-ad4b-21154e8fc483 Name = Mission Control9 Latitude = -0.131331503391266 Longitude = 16.594841003418 Height = 75 Body = 1 Antennas { ANTENNA { Omni = 7.5E+07 } }} STATION { Guid = 5105f5a9-d628-41c6-ad4b-21154e8fc484 Name = Mission Control Latitude = -0.131331503391266 Longitude = 196.594841003418 Height = 75 Body = 1 Antennas { ANTENNA { Omni = 7.5E+07 } }} Edited August 31, 2014 by TranceaddicT
Lucid Hills
I made these for myself but I thought I'd share them as they're useful. They are diagrams for optimum orbits for arrays of 3-4 satellites with the 2.50Mm and 5.00Mm antennas. I'm not sure how well you can read the text. You might want to go directly to the album. Javascript is disabled. View full albumThey aren't as high has they could be (by 20-50km) but this way there is a little lee way for imperfect positioning etc.
Starstrider42
I'd actually say your optimum orbits are a little too high. If there were more overlap between the antennas, the network would be more resistant to satellites drifting out of formation.Still, those are very nice diagrams. Would you mind if we added them to the manual (giving proper credit of course)?
Kurotenshi
Lovely diagrams, I recently made a spread sheet with all kinds of useful information, like exact orbital period, resonant orbit period and such. The numbers match yours closely. What did you use to make these?

drtedastro
Great to see work continue for this mod. Thanks to all who are working on it. I wish to add more tracking stations (as i build them ) using Kerbin Side. What is needed for your "Guid" that is shown with tracking stations that are in the RemoteTech.cfg???How do i come up with / create this "key" / number...????thanks in advance. Mecripp
Look at your RT2 setting cfg ConsumptionMultiplier = 1.0RangeMultiplier = 1ActiveVesselGuid = 35b89a0d664c43c6bec8d0840afc97b2SpeedOfLight = 3E+08MapFilter = Omni, Dish, Planet, PathEnableSignalDelay = FalseRangeModelType = AdditiveMultipleAntennaMultiplier = 1ThrottleTimeWarp = TrueDishConnectionColor = 0.9960784,0.7019608,0.03137255,1OmniConnectionColor = 0.5529412,0.5176471,0.4078431,1ActiveConnectionColor = 0.6588235,1,0.01568628,1GroundStations{ STATION { Guid = 5105f5a9-d628-41c6-ad4b-21154e8fc482 <----- here Name = AU - Woomera Latitude = -30.95875 Longitude = 136.50366 Height = 417 Body = 1 Antennas { ANTENNA { Omni = 7.5E+07 } } } STATION { Guid = 5105f5a9-d628-41c6-ad4b-21154e8fc483 <------here Name = CN - Jiuquan Latitude = 41.11803 Longitude = 100.4633 Height = 1350 Body = 1 Antennas { ANTENNA { Omni = 7.5E+07 } } } STATION { Guid = 5105f5a9-d628-41c6-ad4b-21154e8fc484 <------ here Name = CN - Taiyuan Latitude = 39.14321 Longitude = 111.96741 Height = 1750 Body = 1 Antennas { ANTENNA { Omni = 7.5E+07 } } } STATION { Guid = 5105f5a9-d628-41c6-ad4b-21154e8fc485 <-------here Name = CN - Xichang Latitude = 28.24646 Longitude = 102.02814 Height = 2150 Body = 1 Antennas { ANTENNA { Omni = 7.5E+07 } } } As you can see just the last # was change so RT2 knows which 1 it is.
