[DEV HALTED][0.90] ChopIt! Detach parts in flight! [v2.6.0; 2015-01-03]

Version 2.5 the "K3|Chris was unhappy" edition has been released!

Major changes:

  1. No MM patch is required any more, module is now added & removed on-the-fly as needed
  2. It now takes time to chop a part, your Kerbal has to stay near it during this period
  3. Many more config options have been added to tweak the time it needs to chop a part (down to 0sec if you want it that way)
  4. I changed the license to CC BY-NC-SA 4.0

You will need a new config file, so I suggest deleting the old and have the plugin create a new one.

Please check the OP for more infos and the new download!

A video will be upcoming sometime tomorrow.

Final notice: it's 2:40am in the morning here and I have some work to submit in less than 5 hours, so please be patient if you find a few bugs :wink:

Version 2.5.1 released

This is a hotfix release since yesterday's version triggered launch clamps, fairing and other stuff to decouple when you clicked on them.

Thanks to K3|Chris for reporting and The_Duck & ferram4 for helping me fix this. It should be gone for good now :wink:

Download in OP updated. GH source will be updated very soon-ish, promised dear mods.

Oh and I did a short video showing the distance feature (most of the floating around was actually on purpose):

Since I’m now maintaining 8 mods already it gets a bit tedious to update several links spread over the forum (most updates change at least two mods due to them requiring each other).

Therefore I decided to bundle them on a common download page. You’ll find links to the forum post, source, license and of course the download there.

I also took the liberty to add a donate button since I can really use any cent you might have lying around – but that is, of course, fully optional! I talked with one of our cheerful mods so I shouldn’t be violating any forum rules.

I know it’s a bit less convenient than direct download links in the posts, but on the plus side should hopefully reduce the occurrence of dead links since I only update in one place. If you find any problems there is a direct contact option on the side so that I can react asap.

Thanks for bearing with me and I hope you’ll continue to enjoy my mods in the future!

hey could you do FuseIt (UnChopIt) tu solder in separate parts ?

In theory yes, but practically I don't see a good way to do this:

  • for small parts there is KAS (+KospY is back and working on it again, wuhuu!) so I won't make a less cool implementation of a feature we already have
  • for big parts: how do you plan to keep them in the same place while colliding with the targetpart for half a minute or so? That may work occasionally in gravity, but in space I don't see a good way (*cough* except for ActiveStruts *cough*) to do that

Open for your ideas though.

You need to talk to that dude that makes the random failures mod. *cough* synergy! *cough*

I talk to Ippo occasionally, but a cooperation never came up actually. Plus he's a bit 'burned out' from too much failures atm, so let's put this to the backlog for a while :wink:

Can ShopIt be used to remove structs after launch? Struts tend to slow down my game and are often useless once in orbit

I think struts don't have a collider which is required to open an action menu afaik. So at the moment I don't think that you can remove struts, may be wrong though.

If they have a collider and stack detach is enabled in the config then most probably yes.

Installation:

  1. Download Zip
  2. Unzip
  3. Move CIT folder into GameData
  4. ???
  5. Profit :wink:

Version 2.6 released!

I'm always forgetting to add a probe core on my (upper) launch/tug stages.

So I made an ugly little part that can be KAS-attached to a vessel and gives enough control to deorbit it. However, to do this some form of RCS has to be installed. If that's not the case I threw in a vessel self destruct feature for good measure.

Didn't know where to put this thingy so I added it to ChopIt since the self destruct feature was already present removing the need for yet another plugin.

Just pushed a tiny update (2.6.1) to fix the orientation: antenna side is now up so that it works as needed when attached to the side of a fuel tank or so)

Also reduced the texture size and added some minor improvements to the plugin.

Nothing fancy this time :wink:

DefaultTimerValue = 10

ShowSelfDestructionCountdown = True

TimerSoundFile = CIT/ChopIt/Sounds/CI_Beep

PlayTimerSound = True

ShowTimerManipulationActions = True

ExplodeConnectedParts = False

IncreaseExplosionPotential = False

MultiplierForExplosionPotential = 1.25

IncreaseExplosionPotentialOfConnectedParts = False

ExplodeWholeVessel = False

MinChopDuration = 0

MaxChopDuration = 0

It looks like you have correctly enabled stack detach.

Just to be sure: do you have the util dll?

I have the CIT\ChopIt\Plugins\ChopIt.dll, is there a different one I also need?

Please look at my signature, you also need CIT Util.

If it doesn't work with it as well, please let me know, send me a full log and I'll try to track the problem down.
