^^ That Mun Lander is awesome, it makes that ugly two man Mun lander can look good!

Heh thanks. And it actually flies pretty good, too! The replicraft rockets on this thread are rather impressive.. so instead of trying to emulate appearance with the lifters, I've been aiming to emulate function. These are my first applications of the SLS parts and I've had to dial back the max thrust of the SLS parts substantially - those engines are crazy-powerful!

Points Tally: 50

- Saturn Five uses 5 engines on the first stage, 5 engines on the second stage, and one engine on the third stage. +15 (S-IC uses 10 Mainsails, due to weight, so I've deducted points accordingly)

- Lander stored behind a fairing. +10

- Stock. +20 (Use only stock parts)

- Launch Escape System. +5

WOW. How'd you cluster together all those boosters?

Congrats on the featured thread!

To make the clustered boosters I just radially mounted large SRBs around a central one. The trick was making a subassembly that was radially attachable. To do that, I started with a cubic strut as my root part, then attached a few more to that. I then radially attached a single booster to the end, then added the other boosters around that. Finally, I attached the nose cone on top.

here's an interesting concept that might fit well into this challenge:

it's basically a replacement for the saturn ib that uses the 260 inch srbs that i used for my mlv as the 1st stage.

DO IT! YESSSS!

If you can find evidence that a concept for a saturn/apollo vehicle was written down as a feasible plan during the 1960s-1970s, Do it.

And there's something seriously wrong with the 'new' big de-couplers.. Anybody else has trouble with them? Either they don't or they do.. but your COG ends up somewhere in between your ship and your decoupled part.. :/

* made it work!

the trail of 17 boosters :D

yup that fast :D. Definitely saves some parts and makes a lot of noise! WooDzor approves :)

Yeah don't use them ever! Too much trouble.

Oh and well done for getting skickied!

Great thread! Great crafts! Great balls of fire!

Hey, thought I'd take a shot at participating. I'm not really going for exact replicas or trying to win, I'm just having some fun learning about the Apollo program.

I've got a Saturn-V, Saturn-1B, the CSM, and the LEM that I'll be using.

I've got the basic crafts built, I'll start putting missions together ASAP and add them to this album.

EDIT: I added Apollo 4 and 7

I don`t think I qualify for the rules as I have used stretchy tanks, procedural fairings and realchutes but apart from that It`s stock. I also use some graphical mods and other mods that don`t affect physics or parts.

I`d like to show it anyway.

Here is an apollo mission

And here is an experimental design where stage 1 has been replaced by jet engines

It does have a rover but I`m currently designing a better one (without a clipping bug which the older one has)

Well the Stretchy parts make it a minus 75 points unless you are using RSS or 6.4:1 Kerbin.

Oh, I didn`t really look at the rules, just the allowed mods, I`ll have a look and see what I scored. I`ll edit this post.

I got 72 so my score is -3. I`d have a higher score by not entering, hehe.

I really like the use of your HGR parts even where the Stock Extension would be the easier choice.

I'm not that happy with my current LEM design. Would it be against the rules to do a redesign at this point? It would still be similar but I'd like to make it look better.

The decoupler can be fixed by making the physics singificance = 0 (on) in the part config file.
