Should Squad update the start screen?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I was Watching the movie MOON and admiring all the lovely Moon visuals. It got me thinking about how pretty the KSP Mun

looks now and wondering why they don't create a nicer start screen. The Mun background looks dated now.

I have no idea how hard this would be and I know its a very minor thing but it is the first thing you see when starting KSP.

It should be spectacular.

Any thoughts?

MJ

i think if a save has a manned landing somewhere that planet/moon should be added to the list of possible start screen.

say in my career ive landed on duna, id like to occasionaly see a kerbal standing in front of a lightly blowing generic ksp flag on duna. perhaps a generic ship in the start screen.

short of that, i think theres a few things that would make an awe inspiring start screen:

a jool rise(from any of the joolian moons)

seeing ike from duna

seeing duna from ike

seeing eve from gilly

an asteroid with a cuplola module/claw attached orbiting over kerbin

a slowly rotating satalite obiting duna/eve/kerbin

a kerbal poking inside a sciencelab junior landed on eeloo

and our great animators are up for it, i think a close up of ksc with kadets training would be neat. make that a rarer one.

They could add another alternate screen, personally I love the Mun start screen, it really shows how in-depth KSP goes to [somewhat] accurately depict spaceflight. I don't know many other games where you get to fly your spacecraft the whole way to the point of touching down on the surface.

Another start screen wouldn't hurt to add, though. Do you have a picture / screencap of the movie MOON? That would be great! :-)

Cool idea! I think it would be cool if maybe it would occasionally focus on one of the flags you planted. Recognizing the features on the start screen and having power over what they are would be cool IMHO.

Yeah I like the idea of seeing flags you have planted in the start screen!

Also the different scenes from the solar system would be great too! And very inspiring.

Sorry Woopert no screens other than the ones that can be seen by an online search. Have you seen the movie?

While Kerbal Space Program is starting, I briefly see a chimpanzee in a helmet, then I see three Kerbals in space suits for the remainder of the startup. If you're talking about replacing these images, then I'm agreeable; replace them with something pretty. Whatever.

Once the program starts, I get the menu screen, featuring an image of a Kerbal on Mun. I consider this screen to be completely unnecessary and annoying. I would much prefer that the application automatically launch into the game I was most recently playing. The menu screen just adds a few unnecessary mouse clicks and extends the time required to get into the game. All the options managed there could easily be managed elsewhere.

So, if you are asking whether Squad should update the menu screen, my answer is Yes -- they should remove it completely.

Yes I mean the first menu screen. Nah, I like it, you are too impatient.

yes, "my flags as menuscreen" is a great idea!

I guess the problem comes if you have multiple saves, how does it choose which save to use (perhaps this could tie in with the 'resume last' function and just use the last played savegame?)
