Who is here primitive?

Tenuous supply of the essentials of life (food, clean water).

Short life expectancy.

Absurdly high infant mortality.

Tremendously bad education.

No metal tools.

Large amount of physical labor required just to survive.

No arguments with anonymous strangers or funny cat pictures (i.e. no internet)

No KSP.

I like roughing it as much as the next guy, but I don't want to live that way. It's idyllic in theory; in practice it's nasty, brutish, and short.

Though if that's your thing you could probably go all Proenneke if you wanted.

Edit: Proenneke's first name flags the censor.

No travelling to other continents/countries within a few hours

No central heating for cold weather like in northern regions

No talking with relatives and other people who are hundreds of kms away

No movies or photographs or recorded music

No writing system (in order to preserve knowledge for generations to come, even if your own memory fails and transfer it to other people without having to talk to them in person)

No halfway secure methods of contraception

No Latex clothing and High heeled boots ... uhm forget the last one I typed :sealed:

PenguinsMeep and Red Iron Crown summed it up pretty well.

Those guys didn't land 12 people on the moon, us "primitive people" did.

Those guys didn't have nukes aimed at each other for nearly half a century. Us "advanced people" did.

Give these guys super weapons and they will do the same. Technological progress has a good and a bad side. Deal with it.

Sure because we're so much better than they are. [/sarcasm]

The only reason why we have half the tech we do is because we wanted to ensure that the other guy didn't have more than use.

The entire space race was an international waving competition. Do you think everyone cared about the scientific breakthroughs it means? No they didn't 96% of the people in change only cared because it mean they could thump their chest and say "Merica we're number 1 suck it soviets."

That's it. End of story. If the soviets never cared about the moon the space program would have had just as much funding then as it does now.

I don't like to call them primitive, although technologically they are.

However, if you only cherry-pick the things about their cultures that are in contrast to our own, I can see how you see it that way. Many of these cultures still engage in inter-tribal warfare. They are really not so different from us when it comes right down to it.

They're primitive, and, rest assured, given the technological advancement we have, most of such tribes would become way worse than us. Most of them already are. They didn't share our global history. Our development of legally recognized human rights, that's nothing for them. Their world is a world of superstition.

Don't fall for the "noble savage" stereotype that was introduced by romanticism in our culture. That's crap and isn't true.

There's an interesting story of a tribe leader who went on a helicopter ride with

Look at these guys.

That doesn't mean they should be destroyed. Far from that. It's a culture.

I do think they need to be protected from us. They have a right to be left alone. If they want, they'll contact us. If we come to them, they will cease to exist. Microbes we carry around could wipe them out. People with chainsaws (mostly criminals and awful characters) would attack them, they'd attack others, leading to a social disaster.

If we approach them, it means genocide.

Exactly ...

they are like us before we began to develope technologies, build cities and develope cultural advances in order to cope with a high population density

(for example laws, courts, a monetary system)

I still find it amazing that we live in a world where men have walked on the moon and some people yet to be born will never see a flushable toilet.
