Yeahh.... Weird huh?<iframe class="imgur-album" width="100%" height="550" frameborder="0" src="http://imgur.com/a/SRr0f/embed"></iframe>

Hi!

What you see in the first picture is your current orbital path as the blue line and your encounter in yellow that displays how the Mun's gravity will effect your orbit.

The second one isn't weird, its a lovely free return trajectory!

If you knew that already, sorry. :D

Free return trajectories was godsend back in 0.23-0.235 as you tend to do an Mun flyby without solar cells, if you lost power or fuel you returned back at kerbin.

Yes this is also why it was use during the Apollo flights.

:o Is that a glitch or do weird eccentric orbits in another SOI really look like that?

It seems to be a glitch. Patched conics aren't perfect, and they get especially dodgy when you're performing calculations on a potential orbit within a future SoI change, especially if you alter the trajectory within that SoI change after plotting the change in course on a maneuver node.

Probably not a glitch, can simply be an extrinsic orbit going in and out of Ike SOI seen from Duna

Has seen thinks like it if you reach Tylo SOI at low speed relative to it.

very realistic.

Nah, that's patched conics mode 5 I believe.

Draws relative to the parent body

Yeah, the patched conics, depending which mode you use, can make things look a little counterintuitive. I usually find mode 3 or mode 0 to be the most intuitive, but really it's mostly a matter of personal preference.

Those are some craaaazy orbits. i've never had anything like those Gilly or Ike encounters. The mun always shows funny things for me though. Out of curiosity what do those orbits look like when you have Gilly/Ike in focus??

The Gilly encounters only look like regular trajectories for me once I switch into it's SOI. Before then, the encounter looks crazy and nothing like what it should be(must be the low gravity making the game struggle to show an accurate encounter beforehand).
