Intersection Connections

Recommended Posts

I can't seem to get some intersecting points to connect.I don’t know if this is a bug, something that is being addressed, or am I justdoing something wrong?

I have pictures, but I can't seem to attach them?

When you place a part, it is only connected to the part that you stuck it to. The other end of it is not attached to anything, even if it is visibly in contact. No closed loops. The only exception is the EAS-4 strut connector, which must be stretched between two parts. Is that what you're asking about?

Unfortunately, the part layout of any KSP craft is stored as a tree structure, so loops of parts cannot be made simply, nor is there a mod that does it. You can use docking ports to make multiple connections, or use struts to connect the parts at the joins where they don't connect.

Oh, and welcome aboard!

Hopefully the programmers will allow for what I am trying to do. Using struts increases my part count and I like to keep only what is necessary, especially if I want to do big builds.

I don't think it's really feasible, to be honest. I believe the "no circular connections" rule isn't a KSP thing, but a Unity / PhysX thing. I.e. it's not something that Squad can change without far more effort than the benefits it would bring, when there is a reasonable workaround for most cases. The workaround is to convert your square design into an H shape, and use struts to brace the 4 legs of the H. In text art, something like this, where '/' and '\' are struts (ignore the '.' characters, they are supposed to be nbsp characters, but this forum screws up some extended UTF characters like those)

\...../

.\.../.

..\./..

---X---

../.\..

./...\.

/.....\

Edit: As far as part count goes, I think my suggested alternative using struts would actually be 4 fewer parts (assuming that it proved to be sufficiently rigid) than in your picture, so it doesn't have to mean a higher part count.
