Quotes on the unknown thing

- "You can play 1000 hours and never run into this if your good"

- "Harvestr was having fun doing this over and over again"

- "This is something no mod has ever done. Flat out. We are super happy about it."

- "It's cool. Good players might not run into it, they might want to for fun.

It's a wild guess but I think it might have something to do with dead Kerbals. Perhaps they will appear in a ghostly angelic form and will navigate space back to KSC?

Or maybe just a gravestone marking the place of their death?

So, wait, we lost resources and gained ... powerups? I'm by no means someone who thinks "mining" is good gameplay but it's a damn sight better than ruining this excellent space sim with powerups.

I agree, though I actually think that mining for H and O in particular (however they are extracted) is a legitimate thing for a space program to consider. Regolith for shielding, as well, actually. I was in an interdisciplinary class years ago about lunar bases, and local resources was discussed considerably (from drillers that melted soil into glass, to lunar concrete, and of course harvesting Oxygen and Hydrogen).

I really hope the "strategies" don't end up having the temporary power-up properties that are being talked about here. Dropping a lump sum to permanently increase the performance of something? That can be played off as research, design, etc, and makes sense in the context. A temporary buff for no explainable reason, linked to an arbitrary next number of launches? I'm sorry, I thought this was a decently hard-science space game, why is the administration building filled with wizards?

Powerups? What did I miss? :P

This post. The relevant part:

Now a place to control your strategies

--Buffs to be paid using currencies

--Use rep to buy unpaid interns? Loose rep, but science gains are increased for 5 missions by 20%

--Misc Strategy is also being added

--EX: If you spend funds and science, the next flight has better fuel efficiency

-or the next flight has a bit less drag

-or you have better contract rewards

--All temporary buffs, never permanent

Uh don't like the look of that. How can you find out how to make higher efficiency engines and better streamlined rockets and then forget how to do it in a few flights.

I'd much rather they were permanent boosts.

I'd much rather they were permanent boosts to specific parts. Ex - Dump some research and cash into engine research, and the T30 and T45 both gain a better combustion chamber, increasing thrust permanently. Or the 48-7S/24-77 get better specific impulse. Or the poodle goes on an even bigger diet. etc.

I second this, being able to upgrade parts would be much better than temporary buffs. Also power-ups seem like Squad is tilting towards monetizing gameplay. Maybe they will add a 'Shop' to the space center where you can buy the power ups.

In the admin facility, I think you should have to choose a direction you want your space program to go in, Science, Manned spaceflight(Rep), or Colonization. Sort of like the three visions for space at Nasa during the early days.

Problem with permanent boosts is that you will run out of them. You can't just keep improving the engine until it has Isp 10000. And to provide more space parts would need to start at significantly worse specifics than now - actually we can expect that the current state would be the "maxed level" state with it.

Upgrades to specific, individual parts would be better, IMO, than blanket upgrades to all new parts. This would allow you to customize a new craft before purchase by paying exhorbitant fees (maybe?) thus providing another funding sink.

Yeah, I like this a LOT better. Temporary buffs just don't make sense and don't even sound fun. It would mean you could design something that only works while that buff is active, then it's useless.

Provided examples IMO fit that idea. Except that rather than applying the improvement to selected parts, it is applied to the next ship you launch. Unless you refer to something I have not read.

Besides, they're examples. Not necessarily exactly what we will get with the next release.

Hrm... Yeah, now that I think about it, it's not really any better. Also, as far as examples, the fact that the devs think improving drag performance on a per-launch basis is a good idea is, IMO, telling.

Uhh .. what?! Wow, this is very very strange. Although it can make sense if you imagine that you pay extra each time for purpose-built variations of common parts.

But my preference is to make this explicit as different parts. There is a mod which can swap models, textures and stats of parts. It is used in the new B9 and would fit this purpose very well, too.

Another guess to add to the list is deformable/destructible (or scorch marking) asteroids, from high velocity impacts. If we get that, then I need to make a triangle-shaped ship with a gun in its nose.

The deal with Google fell through, they are now being bought out by Amazon IIRC.

Which I think is cool cuz Amazon is cool cuz drones. Not that Google isn't awesome I use chrome like a champ. It's just that I hear they sorta kinda ruined YouTube.
