Heavy planes break the runway in 0.25?

Recommended Posts

I would like to see a comment from the community manager. This is a bug that needs to be fixed. Even if the plane is too heavy for the runway, it shouldn't blow up.

however the only way "damage" occurs in KSP is BOOM, (except the odd kerbal out: the rover wheels)

I think the better solution is to get SQUAD to stop spawning the airplanes with a 2 meter drop to the ground. It's that drop that's causing the impact to be too much. During an actual landing it comes down more gently than that.

Interesting idea.

Similarly for the launch pad, there is some analogy to real life. The Space Shuttle's launch pad/tower was frequently repaired post-launch.

The Soviets had recurring issues with damaged launchpads as well.

There's already a toggle in the opening screen to disable building damage. Anyone who doesn't like it can turn it off.

This is a bug for sure. Though a bug like this makes me wonder what exactly the testers do, since it doesn't seem to involve elements of core gameplay. Another example of this was the crazy 3.75m decoupler when it was added in the NASA update.

Over 1600 parts and 600 tons and it still doesn't break? I'm doing something wrong...

(yes, damage is turned on and I can easily destroy every building, but still...)

(This is not my craft by the way ...well, apart from the tanks.)

It's all about mass and speed. See my last post here.

So assuming the drop of a space plane at launch is consistent, it reduces to mass, since the speed would be the same.

By my estimate, it would take a drop speed of about 1.5m/s to make that 375t plane blow up the runway.

Obviously you smashed your plane onto the runway xD~

Try make your ship return with empty fuel tank so what it wont crush the runway..

btw, many modern airline has landing weight restriction..

during an emergency landing, some aircraft have to dump the fuel to reduce weight..

If no fuel dump system on board.. then... too bad for them, or you have to loiter around to burn out some fuel..
