I stand by my opinion that the demo should be the version 5-8 versions behind the current one.

I'd go the other way. The demo should be based on the current version, with limited parts, introductory contracts only, no plugin loading, and perhaps fewer celestial bodies. The game is so much better than it was back then, the demo should reflect that.

Agreed, the demo is pretty outdated. It has old SAS, old landing legs, old KSC, old Mun and none of the new stuff, i.e. science and roots... those should be downgraded if introduced to the demo, though.

Although I first played KSP after buying the game (Steam sale), that was due to the recommendation of an acquaintance. If not for that recommendation, I'd never have tried it because I was not interested in a game with little green guys; the relative realism of the parts and gameplay is quite a contrast to that and I'm glad I followed the recommendation.

For other people, I think that a hobbled version of the current game (v0.25 in this case) would be the best demo for KSP, since the current demo (which I've since seen in You Tube vids) is of a very outdated version and even though people like the demo as is, a new demo would yield even more purchases now, IMHO.

I would not have gotten into KSP were it not for the demo, it was version 0.13.2 at the time.

I like many others need demos to see if a game will even work on our systems, and it's much better to have a go yourself than to watch a demo vid, will the game work? No way to know, it's not running on my hardware.

Also it helped that KSP rocks, there's always that feeing of making just one more orbit :)

Extra Credits is wrong with a lot of stuff you know. This was no exception:

Saying there are 9 possible outcomes is just an overstatement, game demos aren't meant to be awesome they show off how the game is to coax people they want to target (And thus, large audiences) into buying the game. There are only ever 4 outcomes (And demos don't take a lot of money to make, rip parts of the game out and let people play them, like in HM2's demos).

- Your demo is truthful, but the game is crap.

- Your demo is not truthful, but the game is crap.

- Your demo is truthful and the game is great.

- Your demo is not truthful and the game is good.

The reason we don't see demos is because they allow consumers to make up their minds before money is spent and thus add to the risk.

Risk means you might not make as much money, which is bad because you may have to settle for 24 Flat Screen TVs, instead of 25.

the lack of demos is probibly the reason why i dont buy too many games these days. during the 90s everything worth buying had a demo and i was able to choose games which interest to me. as a result i never regretted a game purchase till recently. these days i dont know what to buy, i only have misleading marketing and reviews to go on, and ive been disappointed countless times. i need proof that the game isn't a no skill ego booster. i need to know the gameplay has depth. i like to know whether or not its controls suck. so yea, no demo no sale.

Like many others here, I bought the full version after spending an hour with the demo. True, this is my sort of game - something I've wanted for years - but it was definitely the demo experience that made the sale.

You only have to look at the 90s success of Doom to see how important a demo can be...

I was on the 0.13 demo for FAR longer than I should have been really. Many months in fact. My fault for being a practically penniless games tech student at the time I guess. I'd already decided this was an interesting-looking and unique game just on the Youtube footage alone, but the demo helped me to realise just how much insane fun it actually is.

Then I bought the full game as of 0.18, and all the parts and physics were different. But OMG PLANETS!

Been hooked ever since. So much so that even my name has gone green. Weird.
