Do you send certain kerbals on boring/dangerous missions because of their name?

I certainly have favourites and not-so-favourites based purely on name. For example, Tomtrey has to sit around in the space station because I don't trust him to go on interplanetary missions like I do with cool guys such as Lumin. :D Poor Tomtrey...

I admit, I do have a bit of favouritism based on their names, although this is mostly during hiring - I make sure to only hire Kerbals with cooler names so there isn't a Kerbal with an uninteresting name having to stay on the main base while his colleagues with more interesting names get to explore on rovers/planes on a long-term mission.

Yup depending on their mane they are either air force test pilots or go to an orbital station to train for interplanetary missions

...but Kerbals aren't horses!

I use the names for hiring (since the stats don't matter at this point) - I try to only have Kerbals with real names in the space program - but otherwise I don't bother with them all that much. On occasion I'll decide that Kerbals with similar names that were hired around the same time to be brothers and put them on missions together, as I did with uh... well I forgot their names, but I had two similar-named Kerbals staffing my Mun station a while back.

Dangas Kerman is one of the few Kerbals I've ever killed. With high courage, high stupidity, and a name which was 2/3 of the way to "danger" he became the test pilot for all of my crazy jet planes back when I was on a plane kick. While attempting a high G turn at low altitude, he lost control, spun the plane, and pancaked into the ground. I figured that his grave marker would serve as a warning for future pilots.

I don't choose missions based on names, but I do choose the "teams" based on names (I almost never do solo-kerbal missions, minimum crew of 3 usually.)

Like, Jeb, Bill and Bob are the usual bunch. Then maybe (making up random names to make a point :P ), Tompson, Homspon, and Johnson will be another, and maybe Lumin, Trumin, and Flewmin :P

i use extraplanetary launchpads to construct rockets in orbit or on other bodies.

Construction is based on how stupidity, you want kerbals with low stupidity to do the construction, if they have high stupidity they even add an penalty.

As an result I have 20 very stupid kerbals in an huge rover behind the air control tower. I call it ground control.

it also have an purpose as it show distance to KSC then I land spaceplanes.

I do tend to prefer sending badly named Kerbals on dangerous missions. Most dangerous mission tends to be "Rocket Test Launch" but some Kerbal's names just irk me and so I send them to the BRIG. The Bottle Rocket Ion Glider. Think miniature ion powered spaceplane stuck on the biggest pile of SRB's I've ever done. It usually makes it past orbit and into solar orbit before all of the SRB's have burned out. Then I just let them float up there.

As for stupid kerbals, well, they don't know what exactly they signed in the contract. Lots of "Experimental Aircraft Test Pilots" and "Stunt Aircraft Daredevil Pilot" kerbals out there in my space program. Also "Safety Equipment Test Engineer" is a common position. I launch you up on the biggest pile of boom I think I can manage that day, with no struts, and it's their job to test that the single parachute on their capsule can bring 'em home alive.

Of course, Kerbals with high stupidity and high courage get the glorious job of "Rocket Exhaust Inspection Technician- Mainsail Certification". I dare say I need not say more on that one.

Jeb, Bill, and Bob are the ones in Polar Orbit HQ. Placed high out of the line of danger.

As for Doodbin Kerman, he just got assigned to test the Rocket Seat. It's a cubic octagonal strut, four sepratrons, and a command chair. I dare say he won't be coming back.

Not so much as names, but more so past accomplishments.

Since Lumal made it to orbit correctly with the Duna Mothership, he's in command of the K.S.V Red Lumal.

And Halnie was the sole survivor of a skycrane accident, so he's going to be sent to Jool, the K.S.V Green Halnie. (anyone sensing a theme here?).

Everyone else (aside from orange suits) are sent on routine missions/dangerous missions, and if they prove their worth, they get promoted to awesome status. :P

I keep Jeb and Bill (mostly) at home. Sometimes they go on routine missions, like an EVA to fix my defunct Lunar Lander (stuck in LKO because I didn't extend the solar panels).

Why?

Because Jebediah is in charge of the aviation program. He takes up the planes and the spaceplanes. Bill is his co-pilot/EVA gofer. Why Jebediah?

Because when my planes go into a flat spin at Mach 4, I know Jeb can handle it. He's pulled out of more hairy situations than I'd like to think. (And you in the audience blaming my design skills: hush! I know Cargo Lifter Mk1 is very squirrelly all over its aerodynamic range!)

I send all the rescued kerbals off to stations, sort of like far station if you ever read that story. Clarke IIRC.

Also on dangerous launches that have not been through as much testing...

Ferry Kerman will only ever have one job.

Being a slave to love?

Keeping Jeb, Bill and Bob flying my important missions, although Bob most times find himself babysitting other Kerbals as he always brings me bad luck...

Using EL aswell so have a bunch of smart Kerbals sitting in the sweatshops on the Mun.

With alot of smart`ish Kerbals, there are alot of stupid ones... I have a plan for them, using RemoteTech, they will simply be manning small relay stations when I get to the point of moving past Kerbin soi (fire&forget ^^) :)
