problemecium
In an effort to rendezvous my Minmus lander with the orbiting mothership, I orbited THIS CLOSE to Minmus:It did not end well. Turns out Minmus has mountains that go slightly higher than 5km.

LordFerret
Scooty Puff Jr. ... lol! Not sure if this one counts as a 'not end well', because it actually kinda sorta did?

Bigbootie
Does the last screenshot from PirateCat have the most perfect lighting or is it just me. Looks vintage. Love it! Edited January 16, 2015 by Bigbootie

zekes
First shuttle launch, I was excited!Whoops. Silly stability enhancer got stuck inside SRB.25 more tests had to follow, before it started to work.

drewscriver
Thanks to about half my wings colliding with the launch pad (note the explosion off to the left), everything else is about to encounter the runway...
ShadowZone
Tried out a new shuttle design. Beautiful corkscrew machine. However, after the SRB burned out, I managed to dump the tank, open the cargo bay, dump the 36t payload, get the orbiter leveled and land it close to the runway with all crew members surviving. What a day!

Madrias
Don't ask how this happenedDid one of your Kerbals have a heavy lunch and then let rip? Less than 1 second to impact, assuming the atmosphere doesn't kill you first. That's a good one.
Randazzo
So I've been fooling around with new lander designs for Tylo, and developed the Nova probe. Tonight was the first shakedown of Nova One. Starting out pretty standard, we'll test the landing gear on the launchpad by slowing lifting up a few meters and letting the ship drop back down on to the gear.Technically, the Nova survived the landing. The launchpad, however, needs more struts.
badpandabear
So I was playing with the Deadly Reentry inflatable shield...Note to self: put the shield *below* things it is supposed to protect.

Less than 1 second to impact, assuming the atmosphere doesn't kill you first. That's a good one. What happened was that it was going so fast that everything tore off, including the parachute (FAR's aerodynamic failures accounted for some but not all of this, I swear). The capsule slowed down to around 200 m/s before disintegrating at splashdown.

The capsule slowed down to around 200 m/s before disintegrating at splashdown. The last time I saw something like that, with that kind of velocity, the Kraken was involved and my ship was hurtling across the solar system after passing/falling right through Kerbin. lol
Itsdavyjones
Things didn't go very well for my rover. It technically survived landing, but with half of the landing gear stuck, one wheel missing, and another broken, it ain't going anywhere.Javascript is disabled.
