resource mining mod (not just like kethane etc)

im not a modder myself (though i plan on learning one day), but this was something i had in my head for a while when i noticed how in kas, kerbals had an inventory and could build stuff, what i was thinking was you could expand on that and add resource gathering and processing into building materials which kerbals can then use to build simple structures. for example: gathering aluminum off the surface of a world would allow for simple base modules to be constructed and would provide simple living space, and the strength of such structures depends on the material used to construct them.

It could be a modular building system similar to dayz epoch as an example except with materials that can withstand the extreme conditions of space. Another thing that could be implemented is planet specific abundance of resources, for example duna would be mainly iron rich, the main resources of laythe would be sand and gems, which could be processed into glass and perhaps eventually used to make simple solar panels or something. There could be a whole array of different parts for processing different resources, metals and glass and such would need a smelter, collecting trees would need saws and such, water would need scoops and boilers(steam power), I don't know the stuff that goes on in my head is questionable, somebody, anybody consider it.

Ow. Wholly run-on sentences, Batman! And a complete lack of capitalization or non-comma punctuation.

I know it makes me sounds like a pedantic twit, but please, please structure your prose a little. I got through your parenthetical, but then had to stop; it had become just a soup of lower case letters...

Whitespace, capitalization, and punctuation are very useful when communicating via the typed word. As are emoticons... :)

if your a modder thats interested in using this idea, maybe i will listen to you, but if your not until a real modder comes along and says "tldr" then maybe

Unfortunately, by not structuring your posts with proper spelling, grammar, punctuation and paragraph breaks, you've made it difficult for people to read and understand your proposal.

And so consequently, if no-one can read or understand your posts, then no-one will be interested in using your ideas.

Okay, it's still hard to understand but I'm getting the gist of it. I think.

There are mods already for in situ element creation (or at least, building).

Otherwise, you are tying to mix water and oil here. It's not something a lot of people with experience with modding would even consider doing. It would just work against the overall direction of KSP.

space engineers is a game i find waaaaaayyy too unrealistic, its way too minecraftey for me, plus it does not fit the whole modular building scheme in games that i like, btw i have it in case you had not already guessed. perhaps ill just have to have a go at modding myself i suppose.

I must say, that first post improved dramatically since I first saw it. So much easier to read now :)

It does sound like a gigantic task to implement something like that though, so I doubt it's going to happen any time soon. It could be interesting, but maybe not quite worth the effort.

im afraid karbonite is not what im looking for, karbonite adds a resource which is used to fuel spacecraft, i want resources which would be used to construct building materials, like kerbal attachment system but you can mine materials and construct them to put into the containers on the move

You don't want Kethane or Karbonite. But instead you want another resource that can be used to actually build things? What you want is ExtraPlanetaryLaunchpads!

EPL lets you scan for, and mine 'ore' that has to be smelted into 'metal'. 'Metal' can be converted into 'rocketparts'. And you might have guessed it, 'rocketparts' are used to build ships. Both in orbit and on planetary surfaces.

i have seen extraplanetary launchpads, and no that is not what i was looking for, im looking for a mod that adds the ability to mine a bunch of different types of metal ores, which can then be used to build structural parts and utilities, which the kerbals or some sort of machinery can then use to build bases on other planets. it would add a new challenge to the game, as well as taking away a few of the more challenging aspects like having to put that massive ass base on the front of your ship in order to actually have one. if you ask me it would be incredibly useful when you have things like ferram aerospace and starsystems/krags installed on your game, not having to carry all of that stuff on your rocket, but rather just collect it when you get there.

You want a full blown crafting mod with multiple resources and a complex manufacturing system. Sounds like you want a Kerbal version of Minecraft with a bunch of mods like Buildcraft, Tinkers Construct, etc. Mods that have taken years to mature.

I actually hope someone is working on that, but it doesn't exist today.

not to much like minecraft, that would ruin the challenge, i want realism mixed with a bit of dayz epoch style modular building but yes i hope someone is working on something like that as well
