Stayputnik has no SAS

Recommended Posts

You can determine SAS capabilities by right clicking on the probe icon in the VAB, bringing up additional information.

The Stayputnik has no SAS capability, all the other probes have some form of it, which will be listed. I believe the OKTO has only basic SAS (hold attitude) while more advanced cores may have things like Hold Prograde listed.

Awww. I like the look of the stayputnik. I hope they change the system so that you can upgrade software for the probes at a cost and science. That way you can have full functionality for all probes as long as you have upgraded them.

That messed up a Duna mission relying on the SAS of the Stayputnik when I switched to the beta. The existing small SAS is too much control on this small design where the Stayputnik in 0.25 was just fine.

Are you able to use caps lock to dampen your inputs? This may make the craft controllable enough to complete your mission.

It's a bit odd they chose to remove the ability of the STAYPUTnik to stay put.

Well, as it stands, there are 3 probes ive found any use (and mandatory on most vessels that dont get a pilot kerbal inside it). The QBE, the OCTO-2, and the circular 1m one. These are light weight, and for their weight offer the most features. QBE has basic SAS (which is more or less essential for most of my SSTOs that dont have on-center thrust), so its a rather neat probe, and happens to be super lightweight. The next one that i find viable is teh OCTO-2, its actually smaller then teh QBE, so if fitting something somewhere is important, it is a better choice. It also has a few more features that may or may not be useful, so if there is a reason for these (prograde, normal, radial), its alot better choice. The final one is the circular 1m probe core. It has full features, so obviously if you have a use for the stuff like aim at a target (epic in combat, even if it feels very cheap), or the aim directly at your maneuver node (useful for newer player, but myself i havent found this to be useful as im plenty experienced with orbital maneuvering).

As for the sputnik, its more or less a joke at least for me. It has no stability at all, isnt the best shape for building stuff (the other probe cores like the QBE/OCTO are easier to build with in my opinion), and is just kinda pointless as its HEAVIER then two way superior cores in terms of features. Anyways, for career it isnt useless, but its still kinda useless, as by the time you even start to use any satelites, you will already unlock the QBE ect.

If you want it for the looks, just put it on and then hide another probe core somewhere to do the fancy functions.

I altered the config files of the the probes so they have the same functionality as in .25. It's rather easy to do, and has helped save all the missions I used the flat probe core on from the previous save. I assume the same would work for anyone else.
