What does the "Report Post" button do?

Not here. Permabans are pretty rare, each one is debated at length, and applied only if the forum lead is convinced there is no other choice left. Quite often takes more than 10 reports to arrive there, but we look at the seriousness of the offences, not only the number.

Permaban is ban of infinite length. And by reports I mean user reports:D One very popular messaging program ... do I need to continue?

IRT the OP,

If this forum works like all the other UBB forums I've staffed, when you click that button, fill out the form and send, it goes into a queue that you can't see where moderators will drop by to handle it.

I've never staffed 2 different forums where it's handled the exact same way.

Some places, we have an official procedure (much like a trial) for dealing with repeat offenders, whereas other forums the individual mod has "Judge Dredd" authority.

Don't know how it works *here*, but I do know that moderating sucks.

Best,

-Slashy

Eh, it's more like a magistrates than a Megacity Judge. There's a few of us and we all weigh in on issues, or have the opportunity to do so, and we're guided in our decisions by the forum rules (and perhaps a bit of common sense). Individual moderators can make, have made and continue to make lone decisions when required to, but even then, there is oversight.

Kinda helps that none of us really want to go around hitting things with a banhammer as well (well, most of us.. that Supernovy is a shifty sort. Be careful around him.)

(Okay, Imma run before Snovy gets here...)

Oh there's no way that's happening I'm afraid. Not without being a moderator or admin, or unless your name is HarvesteR.

Although if you want a good guess as to the contents of that forum, close your eyes for a moment. Now imagine endless pages of posts that look like a cross between 4chan and the Youtube comments section, with the occasional one of the more amusing spammers thrown in for good measure.

Got that image in your head? Great. You're about halfway to imagining the horrors that abound in the Fault Vault.

:o

so, there are comments like "this mod is[insert insult here] it made me loose 2 minutes of my life!"?!

How come I never saw a comment like this?

is there a lot of post like that?

it must be a hard job to keep this forum clean and shiny!

Specifically like that? Not really. It's worse than that, nine times out of ten. That's the tame stuff. :)

But there is quite a lot of stuff in our little bottomless pit.

And here I am, still thinking that this is something which isn't supposed to be publicly talked about :P

Well, naturally we aren't going anywhere near mentioning anything specific in there, but as far as the FV itself is concerned... there's no real harm in people knowing it's there. It's like the shadowy place in The Lion King -- "everything the light touches is our kingdom" "what about that shadowy place?" "Simba, you must promise me that you will never go there."

Hey, I wasn't the one who brought it up, now was I? :P

Anyway, I'm contemplating closing this one. It's served its purpose, after all.

Can't say I disagree; considering it's turned into a discussion into secret-moderator-forums-which-mortal-men-cannot-enter.

If we wanted that, we'd make a thread called "Moderators! What can you see that we cannot!"

And of course, the cryptic answer is always, on every forum.. gaming, discussion of food, play-doh, and everything else..

"moderator stuff"
